500ml bottle into glass. From Queen Victoria markets, Melbourne. Pours Ruby red with minimal head. Light carbonation. Luscious body, smooth mouthfeel. Lots of toffee up front, bitter fruit follows. Finish is long with lingering fruit and caramel. Alcohol not noticeable, nice nightcap.

Bottle from HOTM at home. Deep brown colour with a slim tan head. Aroma and taste are malty sweet chocolate. Medium body.

Dark, clear reddish brown beer with a thin lively head. Flavour is malty with a little chocolate. Flavour follows suit. Toasty, sweet malt. Biscuity with some chocolate, a good richness to the body. Simple flavours but it's very, very nice.

Bottle. Pours dark brown. Yeasty, some banana and chocolate on nose. Roasted malts. Taste of roasted malts, sweetish, dark berries. Quite nice.
Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours a very dark brown almost black colour with a medium sized creamy off-white head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, caramel, some chocolate, nuts, liquorice and brown sugar. Taste has all the same notes detected in the aroma, dry dark fruit, caramel, chocolate, liquorice and brown sugar. Quite sweet and syrupy. Fullish body with a fairly smooth oily mouthfeel. A rather rich but also sweet beer at the same time. Not one of my favourites if I’m honest but i appreciate it’s quality.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe, Norfolk. This is the last of my big BoE German haul. Sigh. Ruddy brown and clear with a ring of beige head. Big stone fruit and caramel aroma, complex in a simple sort of way. Taste is sweet and sugary with a light bitterness following quickly on. Long finish of dates and molasses. Body's fairly weak for a doppelbock. But it's gorgeous. Special stuff.
