The Monk’s Stout Dupont is part of the Brewery Dupont’s history. Indeed, it was produced in the 50’s. The aim is to revive this stout while maintaining the name and the design of the time.
Created in 2011, this dark beer is characterized by a dry and bitter taste. The use of roasted malts lends a well-pronounced taste of coffee and chocolate. The hop flavours remain perceptible though.

Bouteille 330ml, courtoisie de Felix-Antoine. De couleur noire-brune et opaque. Nez de malt rôti, léger de café, de levures fruitées (prunes rouges) aux notes terreuses et faiblement épicées, de chocolat noir avec des notes de houblon herbeux et floral. Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen ainsi qu’une texture aux notes crémeuses. Léger goût de levures fruitées (prunes) aux petites notes épicées (poivrées) et terreuses avec de faibles traces de chocolat au lait lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût de malt rôti aux petites notes brûlées avec un léger goût de chocolat noir puis en finale l’on retrouve une légère amertume de houblon floral et herbeux avec des petites notes de café. Post-goût moyen et aux notes sèches, légèrement amer de rôti avec des notes de chocolat noir, de houblon herbeux et de levures fruitées.

Different but not entirely my cup of tea. Toasty crisp aroma that has a little burnt bread in it. Stays a little spicy on the tongue afterwards. Texture a little watery. Some sourness in taste. Carbonation a little underdone. Monks make better beers with flower and spice than roast. Bottle.

A deep dark stout with a thick frothy lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet chocolate malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, OK. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with coffee grind, musty character, light mineral notes, light honey, pleasant. Bottle from Bièropholie imports, 6 years old...bb 08/2014

Bottle, from Dranken Geers, at the 500 miles tasting in the Sham, 23/03/13. Very dark mahogony brown with a thin beige head. Nose is roast malt, light dung, dark fruits, tobacco, dark toffee. Taste comprises dark malt, fag ash, molasses, light smoke, hint of dark chocolate, dark fruit, touch of coffee. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, dry roasty finale. A passable stout.

33cl bottlefrom Terre de Boissons Calais drunk on train to London for a Chriso tasting. Black beer thick lasting tan head. Liquorice on aroma. Tasty in mouth some roasty malts. Yes fine. I mean I dont like liqiorice but this doesnt detract too much from this beer. ok

Bottle from beermerchants.com. A black coloured pour with a large beige head on top. Roasty, malty aroma. Tastes roasty, malty, bitter and slightly sour. I think Dupont should stick to their other beers which are excellent.

Bottle shared by Indra. The pour is black brown, with a well formed off white head. The aroma is Belgian yeast and a nice roast malt. The taste is the roast char malt, followed close behind with the Belgian spice yeast. There is also a touch of coffee, and some malt sweetness. The palate is medium to light bodied, with soft active carbonation. Nice flinty mineral dry finish. Solid, I had really wanted to try this one - thanks for sharing Eric.

Bottle at Delirium Hoppy Loft on 12th November 2012. Virtually black with a light tan head and spot lacing. Rich roast coffee aroma, with smokiness in background. Delectable roasts in mouth; cigar smoke and coffee. Roasty finish with smoke and delicate citrus. Zingy mouthfeel, a little less body than expected for a 5.2 stout, nevertheless full of flavour. I have taken into account how much better it would taste if NOT served at fridge temperature - it would do well at around 15C.

33cl bottle. Black colour with a dense off-white head, small bubbles, perfect lasting, good lacing. Aroma is slightly sweet, toasty and coffee. Flavor is dark coffee, toasted malts and sweet with a dry and watery final. Carbonation is medium. Body is medium to high.
