The Monk’s Stout Dupont is part of the Brewery Dupont’s history. Indeed, it was produced in the 50’s. The aim is to revive this stout while maintaining the name and the design of the time.
Created in 2011, this dark beer is characterized by a dry and bitter taste. The use of roasted malts lends a well-pronounced taste of coffee and chocolate. The hop flavours remain perceptible though.
Top fermentation beer with a refermentation in the bottle.

A colabrown beer with a very big and beige head. Aroma is balanced, roastiness, lots of sweet chocolates, some milky sourness and coffee. Some vegetables when beer is warmer. Taste is also very balanced, roastiness, chocolate, milk, coffee and some sourness. Medium- bodied, lots of carbonation, still nicely smooth to drink. Very balanced and enjoyable stout, better than individual characterics.

Bottle from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Near black with a big and tight off-white head. Coffee, dark fruit and grassy hop aroma. Bog flavours of prunes and black coffee with a tangy, dry lactose finish. Excellent.

330ml bottle. Dark brown with huge foamy lacing beige head. Decent roasty dark malt aroma, a chocolate note, hoppy overtone. Taste is slightly sourish in the beginning, then roast, chocolate and coffee notes gain weight. Dry roasty finish.

33cl Bottle, best before Feb 2013, poured into a Westmalle chalice in Oct 2011. I have never seen a beer look rough in a Westmalle chalice, this didn’t let me down. Lovely dark body, pitch black until held under a strong ligh force when its deep ruby red hues shine though. The creamy looking head is a tan crown of foam that sticks to your upper lip like a fake moustache. The smell was of slightly charred malts that had been over roasted in a peat bog and began to crisp up. The taste a was of dry malted biscuits with most of the flavour removed. It didn’t taste right, something was missing: rich and creamy enough, but the zing had gone, no depth or physique to it what-so-ever. Wanted and expected a lot more from this Stout, not impressed at all. Looks good, but fails to deliver.

On tap. Pours with a clear, very deep brown hued body with an off-white head that lasts. Aromas are of roast, tobacco, leather, light smoke, dark fruit esters with mild phenols. Flavors are fruity, tobacco, spicy yeast character, light smoke and some sage. Lots of phenols that clash a touch with the earthier roast character. Lively bubbles, dry finish with a thin body.

Tap at DHL. Pours red-brown with a beige, foam frosting. Dirt and earth aroma with some cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, some dry dirt, burnt tobacco, leaves and light tang. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry, burnt leaf finish, with some burnt dark sugar and earthy bitterness. Not bad.

Coffee and charred oak aroma. Cola brown, thin head. more charred oak than coffee, but the coffee is there, particularly in the end. Good balance and intensity. Fizzy but alcohol is not noticeable.
