Warming, malty and fruity. Pale and amber malts contribute to a mouth-filling and satisfying Horlicks and biscuity maltiness. Challenger and First Gold give a base note of herbal hop and Fuggles as a late hop contributes the main fragrant fruity and floral and spicy notes. Fermented slowly to give just enough fruity esters Abbot Ale provides a complex, satisfying and warming experience.

Cask @ Cockney. Clear dark amber with creamy small off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, fruit, biscuit and hop. Flavour is malt, caramel, fruit, biscuit, hop, little toasted, medium sweet and a little bitter.

Cask - Sweet caramel and malt. Clear copper with a creamy white head. Toffee and sweet sugars. Sweet and boring but drinkable.

Cask @ The Star, Haywards Heath. Clear rusty orange color, small off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts, a bit fruity, lightly hops, lightly bitter. Average body and carbonation. Hmm donโt really like it.

Aroma: fruity sweet with hints of berries. Flavor: sweet with notes of caramel and berries and some bitterness. Color: reddish brown amber.

On tap at the White Bear Rickmansworth, pours clear copper with a small white head. Nose is almost non-existent with light caramel notes. Flavour is similar, bready caramel malts and fungal notes. Smooth and refreshing, but not very interesting.

cask years ago (found a really old rating) - Amber pour, itโs smooth and lightly bitter. Good balance. Very easy to drink.

Clear dark copper colour, small off-white head. Sweet malty aroma, caramel, hint of soap, citrus. Medium body, oily texture, mild bittersweet and a bit watery finish.

Cask at Deep Ellum, January 2014
Off-white head tops a strawberry-blonde colored beer, very clear. Retention is moderate.
Minerals, sweet buttercream and light fruitiness in the nose with very little in the way of hops. Perhaps a touch of earthy bitterness but very fleeting. I do get a bit of sharpness, however, just a bit of alcohol mixing with the esters.
The flavor shows more creamy, somewhat bland malts, with light sweetness, light nuttiness and lots of fruitiness that grows slightly alcoholic and a touch bitter (hoppiness) on the finish. Drinkable, but very low in character and quite forgettable. Wateriness seems appropriate and the body is still approximately medium despite this. Enough maltiness to keep it drinkable. Not sure where the alcohol sharpness is coming from.
