American Amber Ale is the second-ever beer created by Rogue’s brewmaster John Maier back in 1988. This tawny amber brew with a toffee aroma, delicate roasted malt notes and smooth finish displays what beer judges call the “perfect embodiment of an American Amber Ale."
Ingredients: water, barley malt (Great Western 2-Row Malt, C40, C150), Cascade hops, Pacman yeast.

Pale brown colour. Very full flavoured, lots of malts. The hops are quite floral delivering a finishing bitterness not too far away from a classic ESB. Not particularly deep or complex but a worthy session beer.

355ml bottle at The Greyhound (JDW), Maidenhead. Golden amber with a billowing cream head; caramel aroma; creamy in the mouth with a soft caramel taste, and a touch of spice; then a dry satisfying finish with a lasting bitterness. Well balanced, and nicely rounded.

Bottle at the Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford. Amber as the day is long. Nicely carbonated with a persistent beige head. Aroma dominated by vinous, sugary caramel. A sweet/savoury maltiness envelops the tongue. Sour mash whiskey and forest floor in the finish and aftertaste. A gloriously quirky beer.

Tap at the Wildeman, Amsterdam. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is glue, resin hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a yeast, resin nettle hop bitter palate and lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lots going on and has plenty of body for an amber ale.
