American Amber Ale is the second-ever beer created by Rogue’s brewmaster John Maier back in 1988. This tawny amber brew with a toffee aroma, delicate roasted malt notes and smooth finish displays what beer judges call the “perfect embodiment of an American Amber Ale."

Ingredients: water, barley malt (Great Western 2-Row Malt, C40, C150), Cascade hops, Pacman yeast.

35,5cl bottle at Pudel, Tallinn. Pours slightly hazy amber with an off-white head. Hoppy and caramely aroma with fruity notes, some herbal hints and pine. Sweet and hoppy with a certain bitterness. Too sweet for me.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Hazy ruby body with an off-white head. Very light carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of caramel, citrus and a subtle dark chocolate note.. Flavour of biscuit, tea, caramel and muted citrus. Medium body with a very oily texture. Soft fizz. Tasty but not particularly memorable.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy copper amber color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, and toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt and hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, and toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of hop and malt flavors; with a nice malt/hop balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy, smooth and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice amber ale. All around good balance and robustness of hop and malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance has a amber colored body that leaves a half finger white head, lasts for about thirty seconds and then dies. The body is too dark for any carbonation to be seen rising. No lacing was seen at all.
The smell has some roasty hops combined very nicely with some caramels and coffee.
The taste has some bitter hops coming out a bit stronger and giving a quick bite and allows a slow flavor of the coffee and caramel coming out.
On the palate, she sits about a medium with nothing obscure on the tongue, just an overall basic good feel.
Overall, I like this and would have it again.

355ml bottle. The beer has a hazy, amber colour with a small off-white head. Notes of malts, caramel, citrus and grass. Moderately sweet and mildy bitter with a somewhat bitter and dry finish. Medium-bodied with somewhat thin texture and soft carbonation.

Why all these high ratings? This is a boring amber beer that has been made hundred’s of times before.
