American Amber Ale is the second-ever beer created by Rogue’s brewmaster John Maier back in 1988. This tawny amber brew with a toffee aroma, delicate roasted malt notes and smooth finish displays what beer judges call the “perfect embodiment of an American Amber Ale."
Ingredients: water, barley malt (Great Western 2-Row Malt, C40, C150), Cascade hops, Pacman yeast.

Sweet malty nose. Hazy dark amber colour, frothy off-white head, good lacing. Aroma caramel, some dark fruit, roasted, floral notes. Roasted medium sweet and bitter taste. Medium body, creamy, smooth, more bittersweet in finish, well-balanced, very good.

On tap at the Stag’s Head, Manhattan NY on 2nd July 2013. Slightly hazy copper with off-white diminishing film/ring, and an initial lacing band. Richly malty aroma with a little earthiness. Sweet biscuits/cookies, a very welcome salty note, fruity berries and tangy citric hop give a rich in-mouth experience. The finish is tangy with developing hoppiness. Zingy mouthfeel and medium body. Good.

355ml bottle. Clear amber colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Unspecific hoppy aroma, maybe a touch of orange. Taste is slightly bitter hoppy, somehow tannic, minimally tart, cautious malty basis has a nuttily biscuit touch, orange. Coffee aroma? Roasted malt accent? Can’t find bodacious accordance of the description with my impressions.

Keg at Brewdog Edinburgh. Pours reddish brown with a good proportioned, long-lasting white head. Nose is dried fruit and dark sugar, overlaid with a citrussy hop zing. Bit bitterness in the taste, balanced with big caramel sweetness. Pretty well-balanced. Good beer.

Bottle at Banquet Night, AHA Philadelphia 6/29/2013 A touch of bready and caramel malt with hints of citrus and pine. Nice clean beer, but a bit dated.
