Bottle as swap from Black Haddock – cheers Jeremy ! 2020 version @ 7.2% - drank at home. Pours a dark burgundy reddish-brown, with virtually no head. [ Even forcing it, only produces a small transient cream head ] There’s a strong aroma of alcohol, fruitcake and ginger. In the mouth there’s a slight sweetness, along with a melange of rotting fruit, nuts, brandy, malts and just a little hoppiness. Finish is sweet, fruity and warming. Wonderful ! A very easy sipper too.

(Bottle) Pours clear dark brown with small tan head. Aroma of toffee malt and veges. Full bodied, slightly sticky, with nice fine carbonation. Nice toffee taste with some fruitiness overlaid. Very pleasant.

Bottle from Adnams store, Woodbridge. Aroma combines dried fruit with glue and damp nuts. Opaque dark chestnut. Thin frothy off-white head. Sweet. Slight umami. Boozy edge. Essentially a dialed down version of the aroma. Medium bodied. Slick to creamy. A pithy element to the mouthfeel. Nice enough but a junior Barley Wine.

Smell- weak malt, some roast. Foam-thin, roast, some acidic tones, malt, a bit more roast and bitterness. Head is tiny, light, brown, white color. Appearance- brewer bottle cap, simple label. Very dark brown, but basically black, weak carbonation initially. From- snifter Taste - malt, roast, acidic tones, more roasted malt, and some butter notes. The aftertaste is pulling roasted and malty bitterness, dry finish. Some other tastes mixed in but don't work for me, don't hate it though.
