This ongoing barrel blend series is named Barn Owl, as a nod to the wise and exacting animal that keeps watch over the farmhouse. Released sporadically throughout the year, just as soon as we deem the barrels ripe for the picking, these beers will be one-off creations never to be replicated again.

Undoubtedly the spookiest Barn Owl to date, this blend of dark sour ales spent between 2 and 3 years locked away in barrels. Upon emerging from it's wooden dungeon, this jet-black ale was conditioned on a mountain of juicy raspberries, imparting a seductive raspberry jam character that fuses perfectly with the beer's inherent tartness and conjures up subtle notes of merlot. Loads of bittersweet dark chocolate and the faintest touch of charred wood on the finish make this sour stout perfect for embracing cool autumn nights.

500mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a medium tan head. Aroma is loaded with rich raspberries, with lots of oak wine barrels, and tons of tannins. Flavour is impeccably complex, with dark raspberries, lots of tannins, oak, and red wine. Unbelievably complex, with a beautiful balance between the wood and red wine. Phenomenal beer.

Oxford tasting
Dark brown color. Strong aroma of raspberry jam, sour, touch of dark malts, a bit earthy. Light sweetness, dark malts without roastiness, sour, very jammy, raspberries.
Very good.

(500ml bottle from the brewery c/o my lovely girlfriend) Pours deep red edging on black, with a pink-tan head that leaves a ring. Aroma of dense jammy raspberry with cocoa powder (like a chocolate pie crust), a bit of red wine, some wood, soft burnt/ash notes. Flavour is tart raspberry, light bodied red wine, dusty cocoa powder, hint of sugar, dry light roast with a hint of ash. Quite tart but not overly sour, lactic but not acetic. Finish is still rather tart but pretty dry. Medium bodied, slick, soft effervescent carbonation. Very nice, balanced acidity, huge fruit character, subtle malt characteristics.

Bottle - Nice soured dark raspberries. Clear dark brown with a small light brown head. Dark and sour roasty notes with intense raspberry. I was a bit skeptical but it is great.

Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen.
