This unique IPA shares all the tropical and citrus flavors of our Jai Alai IPA but with an added dimension imparted by Spanish cedar, the same wood used to make cigar humidors. Wood from the Cedrela odorata tree is added post-fermentation to impart notes of sandalwood and cracked black pepper, adding depth of flavor and accentuating the IPA’s moderate bitterness.

Can from Beer Zoo. Clear amber body with an off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of blood orange and dried leaves. Flavour of cedar, marmalade, Lockets and earth. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Spicy and interesting.

Can from Holiday Market. Pours a clear copper gold with a finger of off-white foam that lingers. Great lacing down the glass. Lots of grapefruit and caramel on the nose. Some dried honey, mild tobacco notes alongside floral and cedar aromas as it warms. Light and easy drinking on the palate. Toasted caramel, dry cedar and light herbal pepper on the palate with a lingering grapefruit zest and pith underneath. Not bad, but the cedar does really jump out a bit too much for me.

Bottle. Orange golden color. White pepper, cedar wood and apricot in the aroma. peppery oily hopbitter flavor with loads of cedar wood, white pepper and apricot. The aftertaste is that like a wooden cigarbox. Well made and satisfyingly balanced. Very dry mouthfeel.

Can. Wine Rack, Sharrow, Sheffield. Pale amber. Light haze. Thin, lasting, semi lacing, just off white head. Nose has pine cone. Pine sap. Split pine. You get the idea. Taste is a little sweet, but mostly it’s full on, sappy, sticky, resinous bitterness. Medium. Slick and oily. Fine carbonation. Big piny bitterness to finish.

Not digging the cedar. The IPA is your usual lovely Cigar City offering, full of grapefruit, pineapple, mandarin, and pine, but the cedar comes through too prominently on the back end, leading to a cologne-ish herbal woodiness on the finish. The pepper and bitterness are nice, but the cedar is too distracting; the wood aging should be a accent--White Oak Jai Alai's a fine example--not the dominant force on the back end of a pint. Not my thing.
