An incredibly unusual beer made in collaboration with three brewers
A collaboration of three brewers, three nationalities and six ideas brought together to learn, experiment and enjoy. Made by Kelly Ryan from Good George Beer in NZ, Brett Ellis (originally from the US) from the Wild Beer Co, and Mark Tranter from Burning Sky Brewery. This beer explores new ideas, techniques, ingredients, combinations and processes.
Using all three brewers combined knowledge and experiences to create an incredibly unusual and complex beer, this utilises every opportunity to take advantage of amazing ingredients and try alternative techniques.
Somerset Sharpham Park Spelt has been used for a full body. Pink peppercorns give a gentle sweet spiciness. Saison and Brettanomyces yeast strains lead to a dry spicy character that will continue to evolve. Wood-ageing in French red wine barrels for 4 months adds depth and oak. Passion-fruit brings a tart tropical fruit character. The 4 month ageing process has been finished off with amazingly tangy Hibiscus flowers. That is one shnoodlepippin beer!

Bottle from Sourced Market St Pancras and drunk at home. Pink gold lasting pink head. A bit of a wild fruity floral aroma. Then too much carbonation so I swirled the glass a lot to get rid of it. A weird fruity hoppy slightly sour beer. Some sweetness towards the finish then a harsh bitterness on the finish. Drinkable enough, not sure I’d want another. Weird fruity beer.

Keg at BD Sheps Bush, 27/08/14. Clear golden with a decent off white covering that soon collapses to spotting and edgework. Nose is tangy melon, apple core, spice, light dose of funk, caramel, citric peel. Taste comprises tarte citric vibes, pear drop explode, apple core, light woody must, spice, trace of pepper. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok but not particularly complex or overly puckering - if at all puckering!

On keg at Small Bar, Bristol July 2014. Pinkish in colour with a small, white, head and plenty of fizz. Tart berry fruits, a yeasty edge, oak, grassy hops, white pepper and a lingering, vinous, finish. Enjoyable.

Bottle from Cornelius. Hazy bronze body with a thin white head that gradually fades. No lacing. Aroma of cloudy cider, blood orange, copper coins, red wine, cinnamon and lemon. Flavour of tart rhubarb, strawberry jam and sour lemon juice. Thin body with a spritzy mouthfeel. Lively fizz. One of the strangest beers I’ve tried, with an incredibly complex aroma. Very unusual and interesting.

Bottle shared at a Sour/Wild tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks fonefan for this bottle. Cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma of passion fruits, oak, a vegetal touch, spiciness and a funky touch. Sourish flavor with passion fruit, funk, spices, wood and a drier finish, slightly lemony. Medium-bodied. Refreshing, slightly strange.
