Kriek de Ranke is an unsweetened cherry beer of mixed fermentation. It arises from a blend of old Flemish ale, lambic and 25 kilos of sour cherries/Hl.

Un nez un peu bizarre... C'est vraiment très acide en bouche, et peu sucré. La robe est de couleur rappelant la framboise. La cerise est surtout présente en finale, qui est aussi légèrement boisée.

Tulip showing deep turbid cherry red with sparse pink tinged foam. The nose shows lightly intense notes of cherry with forward brett. The palate is lightly carbonated and medium bodied. Moderately tart with moderately intense notes of dark cherry and light brett.

Keg at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Pink red with a bubbly pinky purple head. Aroma is naturally lots of cherry and a touch of sourness. Maybe more sharp than sour, and a bit vinous too. Taste is initially full on, nice and sour then moves on to really fruity finish. Very soft in the mouth. Very nice.

Lovely ruby red color. A cherry aroma comes up immediately after opening the bottle (bottled nov. ’03, # 5). In the aroma not only cherry and cherry pits, but also dusty and vinous, like old Oud Zottegems Kriek. Sour flavor, with oak, cherry, cherry pits, almond, citrus, even chewing gum. Absolutely "brut" and a bit thin. Very well made cherry flavored Flemish sour, in the best tradition of this almost disappeared ale.

Aus der Flasche im 2014-05 getrunken. Jetzt wurde es sauer. Aber für mich kam es etwas überrascht, das es durch den kräftigen Hopfeneinsatz auch recht bitter war. Daher hat es mich nicht vollkommen begeistert.

75cl bottle (bottled 03/2018) from Spar Oostende. F: huge, pink, not long lasting. C: red, light hazy. A: nice bretty, woody, sour cherries, funky, sour fruity. T: sour cherries, sour unripe berries, bit funky, woody, bit puckering, bit sour red forest fruits, dry on the palate, medium body and bit higher carbonation, very nice for the style, fully enjoyed.
