BigLeaf Maple Autumn Red is a quaffable, well-balanced American red ale with character. Its malty complexity and coppery color come from a combination of two caramel malts, pale malt, and a hint of maple syrup. To complement these flavors, we used three additions of Nelson Sauvin hops in the brewkettle and a unique blend of Nelson Sauvin, Citra, and Cascade for dry hopping. A hint of maple — including bigleaf maple — syrup in every brew perfectly complements the malty complexity, balanced hoppiness, and rich fall hue of BigLeaf Maple Autumn Red.

Bottle, 355 ml, courtesy of Miro B. Shared with him and JFK10000. Pours orange, beige head. Caramel malty, bready, bit piney, citrus. Sweet, but not as much as I expected. Bitterish finish, medium bodied.

Slightly unclear medium amber colour, tall and thick frothy tan head, half-way lasting, heavy lacing. Aroma roasted malts, maple syrup, caramel, pine, nutty notes. Taste is medium sweet and bitter, roasted malts, toffee, citrusy bitter hops, bit metallic impression, with long duration. Dry bitter aftertaste, maple syrup and spicy notes, medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation, nice.

Medium to good yellowish cream head over faintly veiled amber beer. Aromatic, grapey hops, caramel, bit of oxydation. Generally smelling sweet. Bitter, leafy and metallic. Preciously little sweetness in the mouth, although some malt shines through. Resin. Slick, resiny-oily feel. Metallic tang also contributes to the texture. Well carbonated if nowhere fizzy. Certainly not bad, I’m just a bit put off by the way the nose stands perpendicular on the taste.
