BigLeaf Maple Autumn Red is a quaffable, well-balanced American red ale with character. Its malty complexity and coppery color come from a combination of two caramel malts, pale malt, and a hint of maple syrup. To complement these flavors, we used three additions of Nelson Sauvin hops in the brewkettle and a unique blend of Nelson Sauvin, Citra, and Cascade for dry hopping. A hint of maple — including bigleaf maple — syrup in every brew perfectly complements the malty complexity, balanced hoppiness, and rich fall hue of BigLeaf Maple Autumn Red.

(Bottle) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of caramel, red fruit, apricots, peaches, toast and a touch of maple syrup. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, apricots, peaches, orange peel, a touch of maple syrup and a balanced citric bitterness. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and well balanced, with an interesting maple syrup touch. Nice one.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Copper with a small off-white head that lingers. Grassy, woody hop aromas on the nose with some mildly sweet malt noticeable. Taste is well-balanced with a hint of maple sweetness along with more grassy hops. Finish is lightly bitter with some toasted pecan notes.

355ml bottle. Clear, amber colour with huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, sulphureous head. Malty and slightly unspecific, fruity aroma, a stripped-down mixture of honeydew melon, peach and red berries with arbitrary omission of some lines of the flavour spectrum, a touch of marzipan, maybe hints of maple sirup. Taste is initially minimally sweet malty with ostensible marzipan touch, later dry hoppy, unspecifically fruity, hints of red berries; dry, bitter hoppy finish. Rightly a classic.

12oz bottle. I don’t know if it is old or not, but hope it is. Really bad. Disturbing cherry cough syrup tinged aroma. In now way enjoyable. Syrupy pine. Has to be old. Gross.

Bottle: Hazy, chestnut-amber coloured, medium-sized creamy off-White head; drier toasty to nutty-caramelly nose, accompanied by a solid herbal-hoppy Background; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, creamy MF; lingering both herbal-hoppy and nutty-caramelly finish, followed by some hops sticking to the palate. Delicious...

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 15A, adapted). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: hop aroma of a floral/pine character almost balanced with caramel notes and a very faint maple syrup touch. APPEARANCE: reddish amber color and slightly hazy. medium ivory head with average retention. TASTE: moderate hop flavour with a floral and pine character, followed by a faint caramel note and a slight sweetness from maple syrup and not from malt. moderate bitterness with an almost dry finish with hints of maple syrup. PALATE: medium-light body with moderate carbonation. OVERALL: a red ale with balance more towards the hops that masks the caramel notes and with a very faint touch of maple syrup.

0,355 l bottle from REWE Budnik & Homberg, best before 8/2016. Clear, reddish amber with a medium large, foamy, almost stable, tan head. Pleasant, resiny-fruity aroma of maple syrup, mango, pine and orange. Sweetish-resiny taste of maple syrup, mango, pine, caramel and nuts. Short, rather bitter and dry finish. Medium body, creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice red ale with a resiny taste and a crisp, hoppy finish. Quite quaffable. By the way, I love the bottles and labels from Anchor.

35,5 cl bottle @ pre-Sankt Hans Tasting, Ulfborg, BBE 08/2016
Aroma has sweet fruity tones, toffee and some caramel. Also sticky malt. Flavour has sweet malt, some maple syrup, toffee, caramel and . Finishes with some grassy-menthol hops that do not quite fit in here. Drinkability is not that great, perhaps due to the stickiness & hops.
