Pours a dark coppery color, clear, topped with a decently sized beige colored head. Mild malty aroma with prominent caramel notes and some very mild nutty aroma. Taste is sweet, caramel notes and very little bitterness. Some spices in the finish. Very gentle but very tasty.

Palate - Medium carb and body, soft sweet, nice sweet fruity malts. Finish as main flavour, more juicy sweet malts
Overall - Really nice, better than expected and pleasant to drink.

Clear red-orange beer with a thick, foamy head and a scent of sharp hop with light maple syrup. The sharp hops, caramel and mellow maple syrup make for a really nicely blended and very drinkable beer. Body and aftertaste are ever so slightly watery but that’s the only real criticism I have.

Dark copper, clear body, with a medium, creamy, white head.
Aroma of brown sugar, sweet berries, toffee, bread and the typical, slightly banana like, yeasty notes that are in many Anchor beers.
Tastes of red berries, bread, nuts, bitter citric hops and maple syrup finally.
Medium to full, creamy mouthfeel, with a lively carbonation.
Finishes bitter, zesty, bready.

Lovely! Quaffable, quite unique and nicely balanced between sweet and bready malts, bitter hops and the maple syrup. Overall a really accompished beer, that completely looks and tastes of autumn!

Bottle at home, amber beer with a small head, aroma is malt, caramel. Taste is malt, caramel, maple syrup. Nice one.

Hazy, yet crisp amber coloured body with a very thin, oily, dense and almost nitrogenated looking light tan head. Aroma of alcohol, nuts, earth, caramel and much more malt than anything else - strong, yet fairly nice smelling. Light to Medium-bodied; Rich, dense alcohol notes up front with some light spices, caramel and a pungent earthy and nutty bitterness show on the back end. Aftertaste shows a strong bitter earthy flavour and some citrus and piney hop notes which are very noticeable right at the end. Overall, an earthy and biting beer with some good flavours, but strong flavours to deal with to get the nice bite. I sampled this anchor-style twelve ounce bottle purchased from Trader Joe’s in Falls Church (Bailey’s Crossroads), Virginia on 19-September-2014 for US$1,67 sampled at home in Washington on 14-November-2014.

Bottle from Whole Foods Market, Kensington, London. A hazy orange/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Malty, caramel, maple syrup aroma. Tastes similar, malty, caramel, maple syrup with a slight bitterness. Nice one from the Anchor chaps.

(bottle, 35.5cl) Hazy, dark amber colour with a medium-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Resiny and fruity hoppy aroma with notes of grapefruit, accompanied by mildly nutty toasted malt. Moderately bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly toasted malty base with mildly bready and nutty accents, also present resin-spicy and fruity hops are present and getting stronger towards the moderately dry and bitter finish. Nice and rounded Red Ale with an IPA-like hoppy bite. 08.XI.14

Anchor Big Leaf Maple Autumn Red 6% Bottle from Seijo Ishii, 380 yen. Served in a pint glass. It pours an exceptionally clear golden brown with a foamy off-white head. A malty sweet aroma with a surprisingly strong citrusy hop bouquet. The taste is a bit rough but gives you an earthy biscuit, some maple sweetness, a bit of a sour tang before finishing on a green hoppy bitterness. It’s alright though I was expecting it to be more malt forward.
