(Draught at In de Wildeman, Amsterdam, 26 Feb 2014) Black colour with lasting, creamy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with strong black coffee, liquorice, soy sauce and black rye bread. Roasted, malty taste with notes of espresso, cocoa, black rye bread, liquorice, soy sauce and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Full body, thick and oily mouthfeel. A certain sweetness coming through. Alcohol is fairly well hidden underneath everything else. Very nice.

33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of peat, leather, grapefruit, quite hoppy, black liqourice, some berries, alcohol, roasted malts. Flavour is leather, earth, liqourice, black liquorice, quite sweet, sugary, hoppy, full malty, sugary/leathery/hoppy bitter finish with some burning alcohol in the back. Medium to full-bodied, slick. Good, but a tad too sweet/sugary for me.

Rerate: after buying this lots of times the past year, this is seriously one of the best basic RIS available. Super chocolatey and roasty. Good balance between sweetness and roasty bitterness. Stunningly good stuff. Bottled, MNP-173, BB Aug 20 2020, large sample. Pitch black color, short frothy brown head. Aroma of heavy roasted malts, coffee, hint of peat, dark chocolate, mocha. Just like a true imperial stout/porter should smell! Thick body, bit sirupy. Quite sweet, plenty of bitterness. Slight boozy, as it is my first beer of the day. Great balance. Yes, another great RIS from Holland! 4.4

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized thick light to medium brown colored head that lasts for a decent while and leaves good lacing. Aroma is malts, dark chocolate. Taste malts, dark malts, dark chocolate, oak, wood, roasted coffee and a slight hint of sweet red fruit sometimes swiftly touches the tongue. Soft, velvety mouthfeel, lightly oily texture, medium to full body and suitable carbonation. Very impressive!

Bottle from ABC Beers. Poured a deep mahogany colour with a thin broken tan head. The aroma is big boozy alcohol and roasted malt. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich liqourice malty palate. Full bodied with low carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. Considering the ABV, the alcohol was well controlled and the bitterness did not dominate nor did the alcohol burn.
