Aroma of roasted malts, dark ripe fruits, dark chocolate, berries, coffee. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a moderate bittersweet finish. Nicely balanced, not too sweet and easily drinkable despite the ABV. Lovely beer.

Bottle & Tap at Winterbierfestival, Gouda 2014: Bottle is quite thougher than the Tap version witch is easier. Very black coloured brew with an nice bitter taste and some burning in the mouth. Hints of whiskey, coffee, chocolate and roasted malts.

Bottle, 0.33l. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, spices and caramel. Pours dark brown color with thin creamy cappuccino-like head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts with sweet caramel and roasted malt, follows by spices, chocolate, coffee and dried fruit, mouthfeel is warm, while finish is mild bitter. Full body, thick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Midnight runner…

330ml bottle [12% abv, cellared for about eight years]. Jet black colour with average, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Vinous fruity, yeasty spicy and chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of blue grapes, dark berries, a touch of marmite, notes of dark chocolate. Taste is dry, slightly roasty, chocolately, dark malty with some residual sweetness, vinous fruity and minimally yeasty spicy, notes of blue grapes, dark berries, a touch of plum, plum wine, treacle, some dark chocolate, couverture, mocha; well hidden alcohol. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, slightly cloying palate, fine, soft, still efficacious carbonation. Well matured, lovely vinous fruitiness - nice sipper.

Bottled 330ml (Beerdome)
Opaque colour, small brownish head. Aroma is peaty and roasted, some caramel. Medium-bodied. Roasted flavour has peat, smoke, coffee and alcohol. Tastes like BA but perhaps just lots of peaty malts in this one (as nothing about BA in the bottle).

Bottle, bottled 2020, 11%. Color: Thanks to Raymon Gammage. Almost black, beige head. Aroma: Roasted malt, liquorice, mocha, hints of smoke. Taste: Roasted malt, fruity notes of dark fruit, smoky notes, mocha, espresso, dark chocolate hints and light smoked meat hints. Moderate to over moderate sweet and bitter. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Over medium body, just below average carbonation. Nice one, nice complexity.

2014 vintage. On tap at De Drie Dorstige Herten, pours a black with a large, foamy brown head. Aroma really smells like smoky whiskey, but I was defiantly assured this is just the regular version that stopped being kegged in 2014. Other than smoky whiskey, there's medium roast, leather, and tobacco. Flavour follows suit, with lots of leather, tobacco, and smoky whiskey. Lots of beautifully smoky notes here. This has aged pretty incredible. Excellent.

Bottle. Almost black, opague. Malt, coffee and licorice in the aroma. Full bodied. Malty, but fairly dry. Licorice, red merries, pear, coffee, molasses. Some grassy hops. Well made, has a British feel somehow.
