Coca-Cola like appearance, both of beer and head, even to the carbonation aspect inside the glass. Vinous nose, some chocolate or chocolate cake, red berries. Bitter chocolate for an instance, then it is as if the cake is poured over with water (secret Dutch recipe?). Disappointing, as the nose promessed much better. Some roasted bitterness lasts until the finish. Thinnish MF, certainly for a 7 % ABV beer. Some slickness, I expect fermented dark candi sugar. Bweaahhh - it is amazing that this type of beer virtually kept alive a flame of interest for better, artisanal beer. Pretty stereotypical.

Bottle, licence-brewed in Hungary. Nice dark brown colour. Flavour is malty and peppery with a hint of honey.

A red beer with a small head. The aroma is very malt sweet with notes of berries. The flavor is very soft and malty sweet - a little flat in the middle. Not an especially good beer - I had expected much more.

2007 version: much more bitter and hoppy. Bittersweet taste. Again a good version. 2002: More watery than the average bock, which is very malty and roasted. This one is more caramelly malty, like in doubles. But the taste is very weak and doesn’t last long.
