This beer is named after our good friend, Mr. Henrik Papsoe, who has reached 10,000 ratings this year at www.ratebeer.com. Mr. Papsoe reflects sweetness and those who have had the pleasure of meeting him have found to their cost that he is sweet, obliging, and solid, yet also complex. He is to be enjoyed in small quantities, but nevertheless his alcohol and generous nature is a delight to be warmed by. Even though Mr. Papsoe is soft, he can easily be aged. Due to long-time aging on barrels, Mr. Papsoe has notes of vanilla, bourbon, and wood. One of the ingredients is a special produced dark Muscovado syrup, which provides him with his full body and sweetness. If you have a sweet tooth that you happily fill with sweets, this beer is particularly well-suited. Well, actually we would claim that we have filled adult candy onto bottles.

Tap @ EBF 2008. Dark brown color, cloudy. Vinous aroma, not very outspoken, with plums. Vinous, alcoholic flavor with plums. A malty sweetness matched by alcohol. Hints of chocolate and toffee. Burning alcohol, probably from the bourbon barrels, in the finish.

Bottle (Batch 97) (Thanks to Papsø) shared with Niller - fuzzy brown pour with small beige head. Dark malty aroma and taste, light roasted, medium sweet with toffee, caramel, syrup, wooden oak notes throughout, vinous and dried dark fruits, nice warming but not overt boozy in the finish. Lovely.

Bottle from Bu11zeye. Pours darkish hazy brown with no head. Has the nice aroma of dark fruit with bourbon. Full bodied. Flavor is dark fruit, bourbon, oak, rich malt, a little heat. Finishes a little fruity sweet, but the bourbon and oak balance that. Delicious.

Bottle at the Croydonia Tasting, big thanks to Paul for sharing this retired number, 13/07/13. Batch #97. Dark mahogony/chestnut brown with a very thin beige head. Nose carries a good bourbon boozey whiff, woody notes, dark toffee, dark fruits, sugars, dates. Taste comprises brown sugar, dark pitted fruits, stewed prunes, dates, oaky bourbon notes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish with a little booze. Decent enough quad, the alcohol is kept well in check keeping this a most drinkable number.

Bottle at the Croydonia Tasting - East Croydon. Big thanks to Paul for this one. Vintage 2008. Pours mostly clear amber with a faint, white film head. Nose of dark bread and rich toffee. Big sweet flavor with molasses, dark bread, more toffee, light toast. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately fizzy, too. Lightly warming finish with slightly aged dark malts, further molasses and toffee. Good stuff. Nicely balanced. Fairly decadent.

Bottle bought in Copenhagen 2010. Muddy dark brown with a minimal head. A lot of barrel both in the aroma and taste. Also dried fruit, oak, vanilla and caramel. Not that much carbonation left. A great beer to sip. What a pity that I only bought one bottle.
