Sour-Barrel-Aged Strong Ale
Boxer’s Revenge is a simple beer at heart. It’s a high gravity wort composed of malted barley, a little raw wheat, and just enough hops for balance. After primary fermentation in stainless steel with our mixed culture, we sent it to oak barrels for long term aging. Our latest batch spent 25 months in oak prior to blending and packaging. Our high gravity barrel-aged beers see extended time in oak to allow the flavors to mellow and integrate.
Fun fact — Boxer’s Revenge is the first beer we ever brewed in September of 2010. We released other beers before it since it’s barrel aged, but it was our first brew.
Another fun fact — the label art for Boxer’s Revenge was inspired by George Orwell’s Animal Farm. We like to pretend that Boxer the Horse escaped to open a brewery!

Bottle, 75cl. An unclear, dark golden to light amber colored beer topped by a small, off-white head. The aroma has citrusy notes, caramel, barnyard, wood, tropical fruits, some alcohol and a faint note of intentionally sour milk. Tropical fruits, green apples peel, wood and some caramel in the flavor. Full body and way too much carbonation. Dry and lightly puckering. Vanilla and wood in the finish, along with the same flavors found initially. Overall, sure nice, but a bit too much in all directions for me to be impressed. 140315

Bottle picked up at Kihoskh. It pours hazy amber with a medium yellow-white head. The nose is earthy brett, bready,funk, light spice, hay, stewed oranges, vanilla and barnyard. The the taste is tart, vinous, white grape, gooseberry, light caramel, orange peel, some acidity, oak, barnyard, light funk and some alcohol. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. Great depth of flavour and really well-balanced. Very nice indeed.

Capped 750 from Knightly in Orlando, FL Pours hazy copper with a transient beige head. Aroma of mildly sour fruit. Near med body. Flavor is tart/sour -seems very berry, the goes to citrus. A little wine, a little bourbon. Earthy. Finishes like all those flavors plus oak astringency. Really good.

At Jupiter during Sour Sunday 2014. Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma of funk, grapefruit and bitter orange. Similar taste. Easy to drink and not that sour. A tasty beer.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with an yellowish head. The aroma has notes of hops, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of yeast, lemons, malt, and caramel, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle on snowy Tuesday. Pours gold with fluffy white head. Nose and taste of french wine, citrus, oak, white grape, rustic tartness, lemon and light hay/horseblanket. Lighter medium body. Lovely delicate sour.

Aroma: The nose is funky goodness, earth, citric and a little fruity, oak/wood, and brett
Appearance: Opens up as a big gusher, fizzy beige head on a cloudy amber-orange body
Flavor: The taste is funky and a little tart, with fruity, citric, and brett flavors, the barrel flavor is noticeable but overpowering, and there's a lighter bitterness that is earthy and fruity as well
Palate: The body is on the smooth side, with a tangy/sour feel, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression: Heck of a wild. I really enjoyed this one. The mix here is excellent: tart, funky, fruity, and a little bitter. This one is a really well-made and enjoyable beer. I'm quite glad I got to try this. I'd probably call this World Class.

Bottle. Pours quite hazy copper amber, small bubbly white head, some lacing. Aroma is oak, tannins, yeast, caramel. Flavor is light tart, fairly astringent, some sweetness but a dry finish, sharp and biting, acidic. Earthy and a bit odd. Spiciness from the yeast. ABV well hidden. Medium body. Unusual for sure.

Bottle shared at a sour tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Cloudy golden. Funky aroma with yeast, flowers, some fruitiness, oak and some citric and floral hops. Sourish and funky flavor with oak, yeast, lemon, a vinous hing, a sweetish hint and a bitter finish, hoppy, floral and citric, with a hint of alcohol. Very nice.

750mL bottle, pours an opaque orange amber with a small bubbly white head. Nose brings out whiskey and red wine notes, a little brett, and dry fruity notes. Flavour brings out loads of brett above anything, followed by subtler notes of whiskey. Not really getting any red wine barrels. Tremendous depth to this. Definitely a brett bomb. Excellent.
