Sour-Barrel-Aged Strong Ale
Boxer’s Revenge is a simple beer at heart. It’s a high gravity wort composed of malted barley, a little raw wheat, and just enough hops for balance. After primary fermentation in stainless steel with our mixed culture, we sent it to oak barrels for long term aging. Our latest batch spent 25 months in oak prior to blending and packaging. Our high gravity barrel-aged beers see extended time in oak to allow the flavors to mellow and integrate.
Fun fact — Boxer’s Revenge is the first beer we ever brewed in September of 2010. We released other beers before it since it’s barrel aged, but it was our first brew.
Another fun fact — the label art for Boxer’s Revenge was inspired by George Orwell’s Animal Farm. We like to pretend that Boxer the Horse escaped to open a brewery!

Bottle from Erzbierschof; Bern; 10.2% ABV
Hazy light amber color with compact head. The aroma has a nice orange peel touch, bitter oranges, fruity, a bit funky, woody. Smooth, highly carbonated, with dry malt flavor, orange peel, mild funkiness, a bit fruity and astringent.

Bottle @ Christers. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, light sourness, brett, whitewine, oak, fruity hops. Flavor is malt, yeast, bretty, oak, sourness, oak, wine, fruity hops, mango, grapes. Medium body, lively carbonation, light warming alcohol. Lovely beer. 231013

Bottle @ Aarhus tasting. Hazy orange with a lasting white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, fruity, brett, wood and white wine. Flavor is quite sweet, rather bitter and light acidic. Dry, rather bitter and light acidic finish. 231013

Bottle, 9%. Hazy dark yellow with small off-white head. Aroma is malt, fruit, brett, hop, white wine and citrus. Flavour is malt, fruit, brett, white wine, little sweet, medium bitter, little earthy, medium dry, tart, wood and funky.

Got in a trade with Cyde. 750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours moderately hazy orange amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big orange zest, lemon zest, pear, pineapple, peach, grapefruit, clove, oak, floral, white wine, grass, pepper, bread, funk, light caramel, and spicy yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of hop, yeast, and barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big orange zest, lemon zest, pineapple, peach, pear, grapefruit, clove, oak, pepper, floral, white wine, grass, light caramel, herbal, funk, and spicy yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pear, pineapple, peach, clove, oak, pepper, white wine, floral, funk, and spicy yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and complexity of hop, yeast, and barrel flavors; with a great malt/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with an acidic, moderately crisp, slick, and earthy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent wild ale! All around great balance and complexity of hop, barrel, and yeast/brett flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for being over 10%. A very enjoyable offering.

Two small tasting cups at Cotteridge Wine during the 6th July RB Black Country Bus Trip (sorry if I stole someones cup, but I needed two to rate/review it correctly). Dark yellow/orange body that was hazy: the head never really stood a chance with so many small cups to fill from each bottle. Lemon tree aroma and also in the taste: a bit more complicated than that but a ’Lemon tree’ has complex smells, esters and thoughts. A bit too sour for my palate but I know plenty of ’sour pussies’ who would love this. I’ve tried to score objectively.

Bottle shared by some kind soul at Mikey’s gathering. Summer Version. Pours a cloudy orange color. A big fruity nose, some Brett and apricot. Sour throughout, some sharp lemon, zesty, but more funky Brett, herbal notes. Good brew.
