[1/28/16] Draught at Almanac & Friends Sourfest at MaSo at Park Central Hotel in San Francisco. Cloudy red. Aroma of red wine, berries, oak, a bit of vinegar. Sour flavor with funk, red wine, oak, dark fruits, lemony note. Medium-bodied. Very good.

750 ml bottle poured to celebrate rating #1989. A milestone that likely means nothing to wverybody, but a great deal to me. 1989, the year I was born into this great world of beer, as well as the year of many great things. Ken Griffen began his hall of fame career, and Boulevard and local Pike breweries were founded. Basically was a great year for me, so I choose a great beer to celebrate. First off, one of the most beautiful beer bottles I’ve ever seen, and from one of my favorite breweries, if not, my favorite. Much thanks to Tcon for picking this up in the bay area. Purple like red color with a high acidic, disappearing head. No head really. Big aroma of sour cherry, balsamic, and other dark fruit. Flavor is sour up front, bold plum and cherry follow, and a red wine like finish. Special beer, on a fun occasion. Excellent.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark pinkish red with a small beige head. Aroma is complex, with oak barrels, red fruits, and a little perfume. Flavour is really complex, with oak barrels, booze, tart red fruits and a touch of perfume. Excellent upgrade from the regular Dogpatch. Boozy but in a tasteful way. Excellent.

Capped 750 from CostCo in Woodland, CA. Pours hazy ruddy brown with a fizzy tan head. Aroma is slightly sour in a red berry way. Med + body. Flavor is rather sour and woody. Lots of red berry. Lots of tannin. It is not exactly funky, more sour earthy. It’s really quite good. The style has a breadth, but this ale is clearly within it. Should go 100 for style I’d think.

Bottle. Pours with a decently hazy deep red hued body with a medium off-white to pink head that succumbs to acidity. Aromas are of dark fruit, candied fruit, leather, persimmons, oak, some ethyl acetate, generic red wine (beyond the other mentioned notes), plums and slightly earthier funk notes. Flavors are jammy, some tannin, raw plum, oak vanillins and lactones, a bit raw and oak forward. Some bright fruit, light funk, a touch of smoke in the finish. Mild lingering ethyl acetate, but not too overwhelming. Some deeper and richer malt notes as the beer warms. Medium to slightly fuller body, some tannin, medium carbonation.
