Moylan’s Nor Cal IPA makes for quite the west coast hop-bomb. Strongly bitter, with a lingering piney finish, this beer backs up the hops with a mildy grainy malt front. Still, the hops are wicked big for a single IPA, kinda what you would expect from the maniacs who brew Hopsickle, but also a little overpowering. Citrus pops up a little on the nose and in the initial hoppy burst, but the focus of this bottle is the grinding, sandpaper-dry fade. Good, but the final eight ounces of the bomber have flared up some wicked hop burn in my gut.

Regional Food and Drink, DC tap ($6.50): Pours a pretty light color for an IPA and has a white head. Aroma is of piny and citrus hops. To my utmost surprise, the taste was exactly the same, which means the beer was quite bitter and left a substantial aftertaste. This was in some ways a one dimensional beer, but still had very good hop flavors and a nice feeling body. With the substantial aftertaste, I don’t know if this is a beer that makes you crave another.

Bottle. Pours with a hazy golden body with a small and somewhat quick to fade, off-white head. Aromas of citrus, tangerine, kumquat, nuts, pine resin, and caramel. Flavors of earth, dirt, a bit of roasted malt, pine resin, and light citrus. Bitter finish. The hop flavor is subdued. Medium bubbles. Dry and astringent finish. Not my favorite IPA from these guys. Overall, NorCal can keep this one.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of nicolascage. Hazy and opaque golden with a creamy off-white head. Intense and fresh citrusy hops in the nose. Rather light body with a dry fruitiness and a distinct and citrusy bitterness in the finish - almost astringent actually. 141210

Bottle from Kris Wines. Hazy copper pour with a lingering off white head. The aroma was on the sweet side of the tracks with a dose of fragrant piney hop and citrus and yeast notes also lurking. Taste wise it was a similar story really. Sweet malts jostling with in yer face hop bitterness. All pretty tidy stuff and an enjoyable ipa, just not quite out of the top drawer.

Bottle @ Ulfborg Friday Night Tasting Session. Thanks to J&C. Pours hazy orange with a small creamy white head. Nose is hoppy and malty. Buiscuit, peach and citrus. Very bitter and dry for a single Ipa but especieally the nose is too sweet.
