American IPA brewed exclusively with Simcoe hops
All hail the Simcoe hops, featured exclusively in ControversiAle for an earthy and pine laced aroma combined with zesty grapefruit and hop marmalade that goes down easy like a pale ale but with the depth and complexity of an American IPA with multiple hop additions. As for the name? Well, let’s just say this beer has a history.

Notes from March 2011 Poured into a Sam Adams less then perfect pint glass. Tight inch of off-white head. Light orange-amber body. Touch of chill haze. Minimal lace. Smell is intense with pine resin, harsh citrus rind, & sticky sweet/doughy malt. I like it, but it doesn't seem like it's going to be dry enough at first. Taste is much more balanced. Sweet, gritty grain & interesting citrus upfront. Dry/sharp, piny middle. Lingering herbage. Boozy, astringent finish. Toasty grain feel. Not too thick or sweet. Difficult alcohol. Maybe one more. ;)

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear orange copper with a finger of beige head that lingers, then dissipates. Grapefruit, orange marmalade, pine and resin notes on the nose. More of the same on the palate with mild toasted caramel notes. Nice and easy drinking IPA.

Can. Hazy deep gold with a white head. Aroma of citrus, oranges, toasted grain/bread, floral hops, light earthiness. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly tsweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Taste of bitter orange, pine, citrus.

12oz bottle. Filtered amber-orange-brown body. Foamy off white head. Oily, resinous hop character. Pretty antiquated, unexceptional stuff. The aroma is completely undesirable. Resinous, burnt, oily piney hop tones. Mellow NW citrus tones. Drinkable, but completely unimpressive for an IPA in 2017.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky copper color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy with pine and pepper. The flavor was sweet and tangy with pine, cracker and black pepper. Long finish. Medium body. Solid

12 ounce bottle from Plum Market, 3/15/16. Hazy amber, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of herbal, piney, catty, citrus hops, pale malt. The taste is herbal, resin, piney hops, pale malts, a mild bit of caramel. Medium bodied, moderate lingering bitterness. Well balanced.

The Short’s just keeps coming. Sweet! Here we go.
This is reviewed from notes.
I poured this into a pint glass and received this in a trade.
The appearance was a nice ruddy to golden orange to brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dies at a nice one minute pace.
The smell was a bitter citrus hoppiness running about my nose. There were some light malts trying to come in.
The taste was basically bitter but ended up allowing a decent sweet maltiness coming in here and there.
The palate had a decent sessionability about it but it did also have a nice carbonation that wasn’t too harsh nor wasn’t too light for an AIPA.
Overall, in my opinion, this was a good AIPA well worthy of having again.
