Anchor Steam Beer - brewed for the first time in 1896 - owes its deep amber color, thick, creamy head, and rich, distinctive flavor to a historic brewing process like none other. It is a process that combines deep respect for craft brewing tradition with many decades of evolution to arrive at a unique approach: a blend of pale and caramel malts, fermentation with lager yeast at warmer ale temperatures in shallow open-air fermenters, and gentle carbonation in our cellars through an all-natural process called kräusening.

Tumbler showing dark amber with sparse white foam. The nose shows lightly intense notes of sweet and bread malt. The palate is well carbonated and medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Moderately malty throughout, mild bitterness on finish.

Golden coloured from the bottle. Aroma is very malty, bit of caramel and a hint of liquorice and ginger spiciness. Seems to get sweeter towards the end. Nice and biscuity. Very nice.

Beer-shop.it 27.07.19

I recall Anchor Steam as being a cultish beer many years ago and likewise it has been many years since I have sampled. Discovered a single 12 oz bottle at a Joe’s in Santa Fe and thought now is a good time to review. I have the ice cold beer opened and now pour into a basic glass. An inviting appearance, amber-gold and a decent head of off-white bubbles. I lift for the scent, nice too, malt, bread and some small fruitiness. A payoff drink, okay but not extraordinary. Biscuit, grain, malt, walnuts, water and just a touch of bitterness. Craft beer has evolved greatly since I tasted last.
