Double IPA may have been invented by accident but pFriem Triple IPA was definitely brewed on purpose. With three times the amount of hops and malt, this is a huge hoppy ale brimming with flavors of peaches and cream, notes of strawberries and a ripe citrus finish.

On tap at the tin bucket. Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. A big sweet resin hop nose. The flavor is big sweet sugary hops, resin, oranges, sticky. Not as sweet as other iiipas.

Massive 32oz crowler, courtesy of riversideAK, pours with a clear pure gold body that supports a full fairly tight light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up inviting juicy citrus candy and then thick lumbering spicy onion hops with a sense of sweet mango here and there. The taste delivers a burst of resiny spicy onion like hops, juicy tangelo and sweet mango candy. Wow. There’s not much sense of the big abv either. This is big rich and thick yet pretty dangerously drinkable. Yummy. Alex. My fading sobriety thanks you.

Draft - Lovely fruity and dank notes. Bright yellow with a decent white head. Lots of tea leaf and sweetness with a very easy finish for the ABV. Well balanced and dangerously drinkable.

Draft pour pint at Special Brews. I’ve really been keeping an eye on these guys. It’s good to have a brewery where they leave no doubt on whether a beer will be good or not. Bright golden orange pour with an active fizz head. Wet hop and orange fruit aroma. Flavor is quite refreshing for a big IPA. Juicy orange fruit, mild, unobstructive bitteress, and solid hop profile. Top of the line triple here. Loved it.

On tap at Green Dragon, Portland. Amber with a small white head. Fresh and hoppy with pineapple, passionfruit, light malt and some hay. The finish was bitter. A tasty one.

On tap at Bottleworks, pours a clear golden copper with a small white head. Aroma is dank, with hempy hops pummelling through, with just enough dry biscuity malt to back. Flavour is potent, with hempy and pot-like hops, with just enough biscuity malt to back. Not too sweet at all, which I appreciate in these triple IPAs. Very well-balanced, better than their double IPA surprisingly. Excellent.
