Double Jack is back, exclusively in the Merlin's Mixed Pack. Intensely hoppy yet supremely balanced, Double Jack is our signature double IPA that still stands strong today. The Merlin's Mixed Pack - named after our longtime brewmaster Matt "Merlin" Brynildson - also works its magic with three complementary IPAs: Easy Jack, Luponic Distortion IPA and the West Coast legend known as Union Jack.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Clear gold. Thin, bubbly, white head. Nose is dank, and resinous. Lots of ripe orange. Peach juice. Some savoury in there. Taste has an initial hit of sweet, turning dank, oily bitter. Full bodied. Oily. Decent prickle of carbonation helps the drinkability. Sticky on the lips. Finishes long, resinous, chewy bitter, with that sweetness lingering until the end. Big and drinkable.

12oz bottle pours out a golden topped with a nice head. Nose is great hoppy pine citrus and some sweetness. Taste is more of the sweetness hoppy combo. Wow this is a tasty treat and helped my hop need.

Bottle from Drinkmonger. Clear golden body with a white, fading head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of honey, orange, menthol, peach and pine resin. Flavour is very sweet - maple syrup and sugary tea - with a tangy, slightly peppery finish. Medium body with a very oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. This has a nice hoppy aroma and flavour from the dry-hopping but it’s low on hop bitterness. It goes down easy for 9.5% ABV. For me, it’s verging on Barley Wine territory.

CBC 2014. Golden with a thick and lasting white head. Citrus hoppy aroma, with lots of orange and some lime, along with pine notes. Cryish citrus hoppy flavour with bready malt. Very bitter, but not in an aggressive way.

Bottle dated 10/30/15.
For today, this was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. Lotsa nice foamy lacing stuck finely to the glass.
The smell had a sweet sticky grapefruit-esque leading to fine subtle juicy citrus and decent underscore of pine to balance.
The taste was pure bittersweet and refined to a sly subtle sticky citrusy conglomeration of pine. The aftertaste was mainly bitter that lead to a slightly dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body. 9.5% - really? Maybe closer when its fresh, not necessarily now. Still good and has a decent substantial carbonation to pound my tongue into submission.
Overall, pretty good DIPA that I would have again. I’ll definitely seek fresher my next chance.
