Every beer has a story, here's Punkin Ale...
A full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin and brown sugar. We brew our Punkin Ale with pumpkin meat, brown sugar and spices. As the season cools, this is the perfect beer to warm up with.
Punkin Ale is named after the seriously off-centered southern Delaware extravaganza Punkin Chunkin (check out some of these Discovery Channel videos of Punkin Chunkin, you gotta see it to believe it!). In fact, Punkin Ale made its debut as it claimed first prize in the 1994 Punkin Chunkin Recipe Contest. Yes, that was a full 6 months before we even opened our doors for business!
Since its debut, we've brewed Punkin Ale each and every fall. It is released right around Sept. 1 each year. When you find it, grab some extra because it's usually gone by Thanksgiving.

Bottle - Pungent spices, pumpkin and a bit soapy. The soapy taste is evident and possibly a bad bottle. An acidic red wine taste, pumpkin, spice no significant bitterness. No body to speak off, a very underwhelming pumpkin ale.

Bouteille 12oz.

Bottle at home (10/11/12) from Belmont Station, Portland. Pours a clear mid amber with a thin frothy off white head with lively carbonation visually evident. Nose comprises malt, nutmeg, spice, fruit and a little mineral whiff. Tastes of sweet caramelised sugars, ripe fruit, spice. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, bitter sweet finish.

Clear beige colour, white head. Spicy aroma, allspice, carrots, pumpkin, nutmeg and caramelised sugar. Quite spicy flavour, sweet malts, caramel, brown sugar tones, cinnamon and nutmeg. Somewhat reminding of pumpkin pie. Light bitter finish, spicy pumpkin, cinnamon and some light sweet notes.
Nice and drinkable.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Borefts 2012 - thx. to Vincent / Belgbeergeek I believe - finally got to try some Dogfish Head which took longer than Kuhnhenn & RR - thx. - clear darker amber, slightly tanned head - bit lighter nose, some nutmeg blended with light pumpkin, caramel, malty, cinnamon, spices. Sweeter caramel malts, dark / brown sugar, pumpkin pits, light nutmeg. cinnamon, light bitter spice in the back. Easy to drink - probably lovely to do a 4 pack of this, good stuff.

On tap in NYC. $8 for a pint. Burnt brown orange. 2 finger head. Faded slowly. Nice lacing. Very mild pumpkin scent in the nose. Hint of sugars and spices. Very spicy up front on the taste. Very mild pumpkin taste in the middle. Finish is mildly sweet. 65% carbonation on the mouth swish. Medium body. One of my favorite pumpkin beers aside from pumking.

Bottle shared with friends. Clear amber pour with small white head. Spicy aroma and flavour with cinnamon, nutmeg and pumpkin. Interesting but not really the right flavours for a beer
