Barrel aged for 26 months on a Stranahans Colorado Whiskey barrel.

It is hardly a secret that Hr. Frederiksen is the signature beer for Amager Bryghus, and we are happy to admit that this big, black beer is close to our hearts. It is also hardly a secret that we are very happy with Stranahan whiskey, from the small distillery in Denver, Colorado. With Hr. Frederiksen Colorado Whiskey Edition we combine two good things in one bottle, and we hope that you - dear beer lover - will enjoy the joyful combination of a rich and potent Imperial Stout from Amager's beautiful, rolling, green landscapes, which after 26 months in a Stranahan whiskey barrel is rounded off by the slightly sweet whiskey from Colorado's wild mountains.
Hr. Frederiksen Colorado Whiskey Edition is not a beer that you throw down your throat in excessive quantities at your local beaver drink. It is a delightful beer - preferably poured into a large goblet glass - for quiet contemplative evenings in front of the fireplace video, where you can calmly ponder life's big questions such as: is Bjarne Corydon really a sexier finance minister than Claus Hjort? And can't I reasonably demand a 50% discount on my souvlaki the next time I vacation in Crete? Yes, there are so many big questions in life. And to digest them, you can conveniently enjoy this great beer, which has tamed potency without ever ending up as a cuckold.

Bottle @ Rene’s house, courtesy of Rasmus40. Thanks a bunch! Very excited to trying this one! Dark chocolate, pretty intense booze, somewhat woody, mild caramel aroma. Very rich woody/oaky, mild vanilla, burnt toffee, light celery, dark chocolate flavor. There is a slight weird, veggie note going on that I don’t enjoy but it was otherwise enjoyable.

375 ml bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a fizzy dark brown head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace leaving you with a very vinous looking beer. Smell is sweet and rather intense with roasted malts, sweetened dark roast coffee, dark quality chocolate, bourbon, wood, prunes, dark grapes, alcohol, wet soil, red wine and hints of resin, vanilla and roasted coconut. Taste is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, prunes, dark grapes, alcohol, whiskey, port wine, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, resinous wood, pine, roasted coconut, lemon zest, rye bread, vanilla, burnt toast and hints of juniper berries and marmalade. Mouthfeel is vinous, very tiny tart and medium to full bodied. Finish is slightly sweet, slightly bitter and tiny sour with port wine, whiskey, burnt toast, resinous wood and vanilla.

Bottle. Opaque, black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of wood, booze, whiskey, smoke, chocolate, medicinal alcohol, licorice and ash. A bit too boozy. Taste is light to medium sweet with medium bitterness and lots of whiskey notes and ash. You really gotta like whiskey too enjoy this one. Full bodied with nice carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. OK impy but I like it better non barrel aged.

bottle from the local aldi NOT. pitch dark, smooth brown head. strong roasted malty aroma, loads of whiskey and wood, sweet licorice, vanilla. powerful aroma, balanced, complex but tilted a little towards the sweet end. flavor is a bit dissapointing after the aroma. woody notes, faint tart or sourish dried fruity notes from the wood, roasted malts, bitterness is not that high. Re-checked the bottle. this is not the wine version. If you like slightly sourish-from-the-wood imp stouts you’ll like this bottle, however, i think Mr. Frederiksen was better before he got into this whiskey barrel. That said I’m very happy amager did it, cause it’s always great fun to taste new combinations. The very long aging can be tasted, gives the beer a cellary mouldy woody touch - after some time I sort of liked this - acquired taste...
