  Strong Ale Winter
Score
6.03
ABV: 5.7% IBU: - Ticks: 6
Old Yonder Star is brewed in the Yorkshire tradition, a rich biscuity nutty ale with hints of fruit. Flavor and aroma focus on the English malts, with just enough hops for balance. In the UK, at 5.7% abv this would be considered a strong ale or a winter warmer, and brewed mostly around the holidays. Brewed in collaboration with BevMo Silverdale, and available now at most BevMo stores for growler fills across the state.

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a semi-dark muddy brown color with a less than a finger’s worth of white head. Messy lace.
The aroma had some biscuits, white toast, butter, butterscotch, toffee, caramel, a touch of vanilla, wood, and at the end some cinnamon.
The flavor leans towards the sweet side bringing in the dry sweet edge of the wood and gives just a touch of the cinnamon spice to round it out. Malty smooth sweet aftertaste to lead into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionabile to sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine.
Overall, nicely done English styled strong ale that I would have again.

Bottle from the Craft Beer Advent Calendar; 7.3% ABV
Dark amber color, small head. Some malt and caramel, but both aroma and flavor show an ongoing infection, mild but evident, sourish; moderately sweet.
Disturbing.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark chestnut brown / mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out notes of toasted chestnuts, toffee and bready malt. Flavour is completely messed up and infected, with disgusting vegetal and herbal notes. An undrinkable, chemically-infected mess. Gross.

Bottle - Sweet caramel with lots of cola notes. Clear dark brown with a decent beige head. Sticky sweet caramel, cola and a syrupy sweet finish. Too sweet for me with some odd sour bitter notes.

355ml bottle from 2015 Craft Beer Advent Calendar. (7.3% ABV) Pours an unclear, reddish brown with a small, creamy, short lived, beige head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of dark fruit, bready malt, toffee and nuts. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, dark fruit, nuts and light spice with a dry, bitter, sour, slightly astringent finish. Medium body with a thin texture and soft carbonation. Interesting.

2015 beer advent. Pour a cloudy amber with good carbonation levels. Relatively lightly spiced for a holiday ale. Slightly astringent taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
