Weizen - Weizenbock Series Out of Production|

An ultra-experimental mish mash of styles. This is an oak aged Imperial Weizenbock.
A big, bold mouthfeel backed by some powerful banana and classic weizen notes, balanced by an ecclectic yet bizarrely balanced variety of hops from America (Simcoe) the Czech (Saaz) and the UK (Brambling Cross).
The beer is at 10.2% ABV and has been aged on toasted French oak chips. As close to bannoffie pie as a beer can taste. Seriously.
This beer was the brainchild of our German Lead Brewer Franz.

Bottle at the Pre-Zwanze tasting - London. Big thanks to Fergus. Pours lightly hasy, deep gold with a fine, creamy head. The nose has lots of rich bread and well ripened bananas. Medium to big sweet flavor with lots of bruised bananas, some doughy bread, hints of toffee. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with rich bananas, hefty bread and a bit of creamy toffee. Very tasty beer.

375ml bottle [#8704 of 9992]. Minimally cloudy reddish dark amber colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Fruity aroma has a banana note different from most other wheat beers I know, i.e. flavours in a more overripe and/or dried fruit direction; additionally a touch of baked red apple, sultana and toffee, cautious hints of spicy yeast, a dry touch of apple parings. Taste is initially moderately sweet malty, again with the banana note as described, some baked red apple. some papaya, caramel, toffee, hints of vanilla, some fruit acid attenuates the sweetness, bitter hoppy overtones; minimally biting, burning alcohol in the finish, soft carbonation. Rich and complex, maybe slightly too sweet. Since I never had a banoffee pie this one makes me nosey.

One third pint poured from tap into a tulip glass at BrewDog Edinburgh. Patchy, bubbly and lasting head. Dotted spots to the glass. Slightly cloudy, copper coloured body. Fresh wet paint to the nose, fresh and dried fruits. Ripe fruity flavours, apricot, raisin, wheaty fruits alongside a caramel touch. Mid-sweet malt-fruity ending, integrated alcohol. Nice sipper, as always with the Abstrakt series, 10.08.2013.

Keg at Brewdog Edinburgh. Hazy orange with a light head. No escaping this smells like bannoffee pie! Very sweet. Low carbonation. Some alcohol notes prevalent though, will be interesting to see how it ages.
