Bottle shared at Bruce’s, from Beermerchants, 31/07/13. Very dark mahogony brown with a thin tan head. Nose is roast malt, sugars, light soap, dark fruits, touch of chocolate, berry fruits. Taste comprises dark malts, brown sugars, tangy fruits, dusting of cocoa, sweet cherry hint. Full bodied, fine carbonation, sweet finish. Overall a decent enough impy but a little over sweet.

Bottle at Bruce’s - London. Many thanks to Colin! Pours clear brown with a fine, bubbly beige head. The nose has dark bread, raisins, hints of wood and cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, some oily chocolate and coconut, soft roast, plums, chocolate syrup. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, moderately warming, some sugary chocolate, dark bread, raisins and other dried, dark fruits. Tasty if a bit simple.

Keg at Sportsman, Huddersfield. It pours very dark ruby with a small beige head. The nose is roasted malt, sweet cherry, jam, candy cane, black liquorice and cola. The taste is sweet cherry, cherry cola, sticky fruit, oily, light roast, treacle, mint chocolate and a touch of alcohol warmth. Full body, low carbonation and viscous mouth-feel. Not much too it really, quite sweet...but more drinkable than the abv suggests.

330ml bottle. Pours very dark brown with no head. Aroma is oily roast with a hint of cherries. Taste is mostly oily roast with a cherry sweetness on the finish. Some alcohol warmth. Like several Hardknott beers I’ve had, just too flat and lifeless.
