Note - this beer was replaced by a new recipe in late 2025 and re-classed as a stout by the brewery.

Our longest standing recipe is brewed with an emphasis on chocolate malts; this unclassifiable beer straddles milds to porters, tasting of coffee, cocoa and liquorice with a quenching bitter finish.

500ml bottle from The Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Black body lasting dark beige head. Malty dark choc aroma. Full in the mouth. Some grainy maltiness on the swallow. Very decent choc flavour. Fullness is good. I rather liked it to be honest. Good flavours, good condition. Wow. Drank it real quick as it was just so drinkable. Doesn’t taste of 5.5% ABV either.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a dark brown with an orange hue and a rough beige head. Hard roasted malt in the nose with some dried fruit. Medium body, burned malty accents - almost tar-like - with a distinct and almost astringent malt bitterness. 251210

Cask at the Euston Tap. Pours a modestly cloudy brown with a light, tan head. Lovely, roasted malt nose with mocha and coffee beans. Flavor is sweeter than I had expected, which is good. Subtle hints of brown sugar and caramel malts, with plenty of chocolate, along with faint bitterness. Medium in body with average carbonation and a fairly creamy consistency. Great finish with lingering roast and charred cocoa, with light drying. Really superb.

Gravity på Steel City Beer & Cider Festival 30 Sep 10. Svart. Lavt luftig skum. Deilig aroma av sjokolade. Smaken det samme men også med innslag av røstet malt. Tørr avslutning.

Shinning, pitch black body. Tiny brownish head. Elegant aroma of lightly roasted chocolate malts. Ditto taste profile with roasted bitterness to the end. Another well made brew from the brewery – very good, indeed. Gravity, good measured half pint at Steel City Beer Festival 30 Sep 10.

Small beige head. Barely translucent deep dark purplish red body. Chocolatey resiny coffee aroma, rather faint. Dry burnt chocolate and resin taste. Light, almost thin body. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry fruity resiny aftertaste with mealy notes. Nice, drinkable, not terribly remarkable. Fairly bitter. (0.5l bottle shared by Ole_R.)
