Note - this beer was replaced by a new recipe in late 2025 and re-classed as a stout by the brewery.
Our longest standing recipe is brewed with an emphasis on chocolate malts; this unclassifiable beer straddles milds to porters, tasting of coffee, cocoa and liquorice with a quenching bitter finish.

Creamy black colour (opaque is the word I believe), small cream head. Malty aroma, chocolate, roasted malts, coffee. Rather dry and creamy, light carbonation. Flavour quite bitter chocolate, vanilla, rather light, where are the roasted malts so prominent in the aroma?

Draft @ Borefts Festival 2011, Bodegraven NL. Pitch black, opague with a small, chunky off-white head. Smells chocolate, roasty and vanilla. Tastes chocolate, coffee, roasty, vanilla, reminds me of guinness, but this has more taste. No carbo, full body.

Cask at GBBF 2011. It pours opaque black, with a thin foamy beige head. The nose is bitter chocolate, sage, roasted malt, bonfire and peat. The taste is coffee, bitter chocolate, soy sauce, roasted malt and dried fruit, with a solid bitter-dry finish. Full body and soft carbonation. A very flavoursome cask porter.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 23/6/2011. Near black in colour with a slight, off-white head. Chocolate in plenty on the aroma with a touch of coffee. Flavour had charred malts, plain chocolate and a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

Cask, 5.5%. Weak coffee aroma. Black colour, almost no head, but frothy. The flavour has some chocolate, mild, not dark or really bitter. Hint of Nesquick or O’boy. Slightly sweet, but with a hint of alcohol in the finish.

Bottled 500ml (BB 07/2011)
Thanks bierkoning!
Deep brown color, not much head. Milky, cocoa-chocolate aroma. Light to medium bodied. Flavor has chocolate, milk stoutish, nuts, lots of black coffee. Somewhat harsh, like when coffee beans have been used? Decent, but too milky and harsh for me.
