This year’s rendition of the obligatory ‘bokbier’ from this ‘pre-Molen’ era pioneer of Dutch craft brewing, shared by Craftmember. Very thick and initially towering high, foamy, regular, yellowish beige head, very dark chocolate brown robe with mahogany hue, hazy. Aroma immediately struck with a fair dosage of acetaldehyde, strongly reminiscent of freshly cut Granny Smith apples, embedded in a background of caramel, ‘Haagse hopjes’, spiced cookies, sawdust, toffee, dry baker’s yeast, sugared tea. Sweet onset, light banana, some fig and again that strong green apple presence, sharply stinging carbonation, toffeeish and sweet-peanutty malt body with a chocolatey edge and even a late and subtle roasty-bitterish accent; dry and powdery, bread-crumb like yeast effect in the end, carrying along some spicy phenols. Hop bitterness, as is custom in this style, remains subdued and very mildly herbal. Interesting, yeasty and very malty, bit ‘different’ but far from unpleasant interpretation of classic Dutch ‘herfstbok’, though I must add that I also had – in their respective classes – better brews from Klein Duimpje, too.

Clear dark brown beer, big creamy beige to brown head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of green apples, apple skin, chlorine, caramel, bit fruity, some dried fruits, malty. MF: very lively carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sweet malts, some caramel, chlorine, grains, some chocolate. Aftertaste: dead yeast, malty, soft roast, chlorine, soft acidity, nutty, more chocolate. Decent one!

Sampled from bottle at THT October. Hazy dark brown with offwhite head. Sweet malts, caramel, old leaves, laurel. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium body and low carbonation. Bittersweet finish. --- Beer merged from original tick of Slobberbok on 08 Jan 2018 at 15:20 - Score: 6

Bottle shared thanks to deanso. Hazy dark brown with beige head. Cloves, earthy, caramel, brown sugar, cocoa, soft sweet coffee. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with a bit fizzy carbonation. Like a Bock with Belgian abbey yeast... Strange.

On tap at PINT Bokbierfestival 2015. Clear, dark reddish amber with a creamy, tan head. Sweetish-malty aroma of raisins, sugar and plums. Sweetish-malty taste of raisins, sugar and plums. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation.

Keg at Arendsnest. Pours brown, the taste is sweet and malty, chewy toffee, dry finish.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Hogerdijk, Culemborg. Brown with a beige head. Malty aroma with some raisins. Moderate bitterness. Soft mouthfeel but fairly full-bodied. Soft carbonation.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a hazy dark brown with a frothy light tan head and no gushing :-) The aroma is sweet malt. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet with a grainy malt, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Not the worst bok i’ve had by a long way.

Bottle @ benzai shared by benzai. Brown colour with a fairly large sized and lacing beige head. Smells sweet, malts, plum, raisins, dried banana, sweet. Tastes sweet, raisins, plum, hint of liquorice and coffee. Not a fan of the sweetness. Medium body, soft carbo.
