Our interpretation of a Franconian ‘cellar beer’ includes a portion of chocolate rye malt that gives the beer special complexity and flavor. This unfiltered, brown ale was lagered for over a month to develop its smooth, rich flavor.

On tap at breakside Portland. Pours out a amber topped with a small head. Nose is toasted rye malts wood and some sweetness. Taste is more of the toasted rye malts some wet wood and a little chocolate sweetness.

On tap at Breakside Milwaukee, pours a hazy dark amber brown with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts and some herbal notes. Flavour is clean, with toasted chestnuts and crisp biscuity malt. Doesn't strike me as a keller bier due to the dark colour and taste, but it's pretty nice or what it is. Decent.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear copper with small white head. The aroma is strong rye and toasted grain. Medium mouth, toasted malt, grain, rye, light sweetness, very good.

Tap at Breakside, PDX, 25/05/13. Clear copper with a thin light beige head that dissipates to a film. Nose is malt forward, caramel, grain, light vegetal notes, earthy. Taste comprises toffee, gentle fruit flavours, sugars, bread dough. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, touch of bitterness in the finish. Drinkable but equally forgettable!

Draught. Darker than I expected with a thick white head. Too restrained aroma, some rye smell. Lekker flavour, complex and malty, with a fine hop spine. Good hop finish
