Developed independently to the Chimay range, the beer is a lovely copper colour. The link to Chimay is evident in the distinctive Chimay yeast character, in both the aroma and taste.
A pleasant caramel malt sweetness introduces the beer, being joined by hints of dried fruits, gentle spices and an earthy, herbal hop character. As the beer progresses, the bitterness seems to build toward a nice lingering finish.
The abbey only makes one beer, with no intention for more. The abbey is recognised as a Trappist Monastery, allowing them to use the term on the labeling. But as the beer is not brewed on their own premises, the beer is not a Trappist ale.

Bottle via Beermalade online tasting. Slightly hazy amber-brown colour. Lots of fruits, apples, pears, also light dried fruits, raisins. Med-full body, softly caramelly maltiness. Medium sweetness, light warmth, light bitterness, light spiciness. High carbonation. Classic Belgian sipping stuff, nothing too exciting, but rich enough to keep you engaged through the glass. Good one.

33 cl bottle served in a Chimay chalice. Very hazy dark amber with a greenish cast. A thick tan head that leaves a disc over the beer. Aroma is milk chocolate, toffee, mild coffee. Plantain, cookies, a whiff of strawberry. It appears to be dry, but actually you can spot a slightly sweet tinge there. Medium to full-bodied, nice metalicity midpalate. No bitterness in the long-lasting finish.
