Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

almost black beer with huge, dense and stable brown head; aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, heavy roasted rye bread, some herbal liqueur, slight dried cherry and hints of burnt wood; taste of heavy roasted coffee, cocoa powder, herbal liqueur, dark chocolate bonbon made with dried sour cherry soaked in alcohol, some over-roasted nuts, syrupy-burnt sugary notes, slight burnt wood/ash and hints of burnt plum jam; spicy alcoholic aftertaste; excellent imperial stout!

What sets the pros apart from the rest? Two of their beers, and I can see they're at the top of the game. Northern NZ, mofos.

Bottle from Salt Horse. Black body with a thick, lasting tan head. Good lacing. Aroma of blueberries, croissant, espresso and dark chocolate. Flavour of wood, roasted malt and a nice plummy edge. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. This is one of the best Imperial Stouts I’ve ever tasted.

Pitch black color with light brown head. Very hoppy citrusy nose with dark fruit and tons of dark chocolate in the nose. Big roasted malt, dark chocolate mouth, lots of fruit. Very intense and good stuff. The dark chocolate and roasted malt finish. Solid and balanced
