Gregorius shimmers in the glass with a rich dark maroon colour. In the nose herbal and licorice aromas dominate, which are combined with ripe fruit notes. It presents a strong malt body, which is characterised by coffee and roasted aromas. Honey from the region and Alsatian wine yeast conjure up a nice sweet and sour game on the palate. Slightly bitter chocolate flavors accompany the warming finish of this powerful Trappist beer. Deep - Thoughtful.

Bottle, BBD 13.1.2017, alc. 10,5% ABV. Aroma lots of honey, toffeeish caramel, dried fruits. Also prominent alcohol. Dark brown colour, some sediment, but it is possible to pour it clean if you want. Beige head, quite stable. After tasting there is no doubt left - this is the first commercially available braggot that I have been able to taste :) Thin body which comes from heavy use of honey that ferments completely. Also lots of honey flavour, bearing strong familiarity with my own braggot that I made from forest honey. However in this beer there is a slightly too alcoholic warming finish. Not exactly unpleasant, rather underlining that this beer is a sipper. Dry fruits and also caramel in flavour, but this one is mostly about the honey. Good braggot.

Drink it tepid, not chilled. Pours dark amber, almost black. Aroma is banana, caramel, yeast, chicory, smoked meat, even boiled quail egg. Warm, oily, with metallic notes and sheer sourness. Not very bitter.

0,33 l bottle from drinks-of-the-world.de, bottled on 20/2/2014. Very hazy, dark red with a medium large (gushing), creamy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Very fruity aroma of black and redcurrant, elderberry, raisins, plums and candy sugar. Some fusel as well. Very strong, sweetish taste of black and redcurrant, elderberry and raisins, accompanied by hints of plums and candy sugar. Medium long, slightly bitter but quite peppery, alcoholic finish. Full body, oily and slightly creamy texture, highly carbonated. Very intense beer and definitely not that quaffable, more of a sipper. However, I really like it because of the fruitiness and despite its alcoholic character. Should be worth aging.

330 ml bottle. Cloudy light brown color. Small creamy beige head. Rich earthy sweet roasted malt nose. Creamy tangy roasted malt flavor. Slightly yeasty with a candy-like maltiness. Notes of dark dried fruits like figs and plums. Very complex malty mid taste. Rich chewy cocoa finish. Very tasty and a beer to be sipped and savored.

Bottle at home. Two years old. Pours a deep reddish brown colour with a big, creamy, light brown head. Nice aroma of dried fruit, dades, rye bread, forest floor, heather, cocoa and some alcohol. The flavour is more roasted with the addition of burned wood, leather and more dried fruit. A little bitter aftertaste and warming alcohol. Has a silky mouth feel, and a medium bitterness. Both tasteful and aromatic, and quite balanced. I miss a more complex flavour but the aroma is great.
