Gregorius shimmers in the glass with a rich dark maroon colour. In the nose herbal and licorice aromas dominate, which are combined with ripe fruit notes. It presents a strong malt body, which is characterised by coffee and roasted aromas. Honey from the region and Alsatian wine yeast conjure up a nice sweet and sour game on the palate. Slightly bitter chocolate flavors accompany the warming finish of this powerful Trappist beer. Deep - Thoughtful.

bottle at home. dark brown, hazy color, light tan colored head. smells yeasty, fruits, dried fruits. full body, fruity taste, alcoholic, yeasty, spicy, light sour, light dry finish. remembered this to be better. probably will give it another try.

Bottle shared at Leightons pad. Thanks to Daniel for this one. Light hazed reddy / copper coloured pour with a thin off white HEAD. Aroma is nutty, apple, caramel, raisin dried fruits, orange peel and sweet fig. Flavour is composed of tangy orange peel, caramel, raisin, dried fruits, pretty smooth. Palate is semi sweet, moderate carbonation, tangy in the finish. Full and warming alcohol. Pretty smooth and drinkable.

Bottle thanks to Daniel. It pours hazy red-brown with a medium white head. The nose is soft, sweet, candy, toasty brown sugar, stewed fruits and raisin. The taste is toasty earth, mild spice, brown bread, burnt toast, orange sponge cake, candy, cherry and some alcohol. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. Decent stuff.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Daniel. Pours mostly clear amber with a foamy beige head. Rich malty aroma with hints of ripening fruits, berries, slight cheese and toffee. Medium sweet flavor with notes of candied apple, toasted caramel, grapes, berries. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with hefty fruitcake, light tang, more berries. Some earthy bitterness. Not bad overall.

Zwart bier met schuim. Smaak is sterk en krachtig, licht bitter en licht zoetzuur met sporen van anijs en drop. Blijft lang hangen.

Uklar mørk rødbrun farge med tynt beige skum. Lukter litt sjokolade alkohol og mørke stenfrukter. Medium med kullsyre og medium fylde. Svak bitter avslutning.

I bought this as part of a gift pack that included Benno and the glass.
Bottled in February 2014.
It pours a hazy, no cloudy rusty brown with a huge head of foam that is great with the lacing.
The smell has quite a bit of bitterness to it yet there’s a honey sweetness going on as well. Perhaps some molasses but more interestingly, I can smell some funky notes.
The honey is the first thing I notice in the taste; quite sweet on my palate. The bitterness I noted in the smell is very citrus like in the taste and the the curious funk smell...I get that too. A very complicated beer here, I reckon.
Full bodied, medium carbonation.
This is most definitely a "weird" brew and I reckon a very polarizing one. Put me in the camp that likes it.

Pours a cloudy amber-purple colour with a big beige head that stays long, as very carbonated. Lacing is thick and creamy. Plum and raisin aromas with fruity yeast, roasted malts, sugars, notes of caramel. Smooth mouthfeel with just slight warming. The taste is a little milder, but still pretty complex. Roasted malts, prunes, toffee, anise and grass. A pretty nice Quad for those who like dark fruits, caramel sweetness and grassy finish.
