Gregorius shimmers in the glass with a rich dark maroon colour. In the nose herbal and licorice aromas dominate, which are combined with ripe fruit notes. It presents a strong malt body, which is characterised by coffee and roasted aromas. Honey from the region and Alsatian wine yeast conjure up a nice sweet and sour game on the palate. Slightly bitter chocolate flavors accompany the warming finish of this powerful Trappist beer. Deep - Thoughtful.

I have this 33 cl bottle purchased from a Belgian retailer keeping me supplied in quality Belgian-style brews. For this sampling I am bringing out my best quadrupel glass from Trappistes Rochefort. The body shows up a La Trappe quad-style dark copper with a dough brown skim of a head finished with a strong carbonation. Quite the inviting scent, caramel, malt and ripe fruit. Then a drink. Yes, this is good; caramel, vanilla, chocolate, an interesting honey presence, wheat bread, dates and an indication of the alcohol. With some luck I will get to have another one someday.

0,33 l bottle. Pours brown with a finger of short lasting light brown head. Aroma is rich with alcohol, dried fruit, caramel, toffee, brown sugar. Alcohol dominates aroma, but it's not annoying. Taste is heavy sweet, medium bitter and slightly sour. Finish is long, dried fruit, more alcohol and pleasant, lasting mellow bitterness. Quite a pleasant warming feeling in the stomach. Despite the alcohol being so forward it's not annoying and beer is still nicely drinkable.

Bottle. dark brown color. Malty bready, soft roastaroma with a hint of licorice. Malty sweet, bready caramelly flavor with hints of pear drups and roast. Full bodied. Alcohol. Good beer, but doesn’t have the depth of the Belgian trappist ales.

Bière 33 cl trouvée à Les Choppes à Lille. Jolie robe entre l'ambrée et la brune, teinte rubis. Arôme sucré, gourmand, vineux, sur le torréfié, le boisé et le biscuit, il y a aussi du fruit mur. En bouche, on retrouve les mêmes saveurs, c'est un vrai plaisir, coté torréfié, sucré, gourmand et caramel, c'est onctueux, vraiment agréable et contrebalancé par une pointe d'acidité qui la rend moins écœurante qu'on ne pourrait le penser au premier abord. C'est presque un café gourmand qu'on déguste là! On est au croisement de la bière brune costaud et de la stout, c'est une belle découverte.

Flaska från SB, ca 1,5 år gammal. Mörk, lätt murken brun i färgen med smutsbeige krona. Doft och smak av torkad frukt (russin, fikon, päron, aprikos), farinsocker, rostat socker, rökta plommon, jäst, rostad malt och läder. Snäll chokladton och viss menthol-aktig ton som från farin-/kristalliserat socker. Kanske en lite ljusare kaffeton kan även anas i mixen. Stor, mörk klosteröl i den maffigare och sötare klassen. Säkerligen tjänat på att ligga till sig och skulle säkert klara sig ett tag till. Mycket gott!
