A different take on Ye Olde Scotch Ale. MacManalang gets its bold flavor from a blend of 8 malts with a subtle hop character from East Kent Goldings and Fuggle. From notes. On tap at Georgetown Seattle. Pours out a amber topped with a small head. Nose is grain nutty wood and some caramel. Taste is more of the caramel sweetness nutty and the grain. So so.

Have had this 3 times over about 6 weeks at the brewery (I kept taking beer people over there). Every time I get the same feeling, this is a Scotch Ale but its poorly done. Some caramel and earthy malts but its light and stripped down. Dusty, industrial aspect to the beer. If Newcastle made a Scotch Ale it would be close to this.

On tap at Georgetown, pours a clear amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out caramel, whiskey notes, and brown sugar. Flavour is well-balanced, with caramel malts and light brown sugar. Well-balanced and not too sweet. Pretty complex and drinkable for a scotch. Very good.

Draft - Grains, caramel and nutty notes. Clear copper with a rich beige head. Caramel, grains, nice sweetness.
