So called because of its truly "ruinous" effect on your palate, this massive hop monster will change forever your preconceptions of what defines good beer. This is Stone IPA's big brother, and we mean BIG. We essentially began with our already-awesome Stone IPA, threw in an extra-large helping of malt, and added a lot more hops. And then some more. And then even more, resulting in a vibrant blast of citrusy bitterness that hits you on the first sip. Just one taste and you'll know why we call this indelicate jewel "A liquid poem to the glory of the hop!"

One of the first regularly brewed and bottled imperial IPAs.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear good with moderate head. Aromas of toffee, rubber, pink grapefruit, and candy. Sharp bitter flavors of orange peel, graperfruit, and resin. Maybe there is some malts in the background...

0,355 l bottle from a shop in Shibuya, Tokyo. Pours quite clear yellow with small head. Aroma is terrific - floral, fruity and some underlying honey. Mangos and papayas. Taste is supposed to destroy my palate but it actually doesn’t. There is a lot of stuff beneath the bitterness! Some fruity rose water flowing over bitter stings of hops. Surprisingly refreshing and not as heavy as some other imperial IPA’s I have had in the past. Splendid!

12 fl oz bottle. Pours an orange amber colour, foam white head leaving lots of lacing and aroma of sweet mango, caramel, citrus, pine, hop resin. Taste is malt caramel with juicy tropical fruit mango, grapefruit hop and vanilla, pine resin bitterness. Creamy mouth feel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry grassy bitter finish. Very well balanced DIPA.

I was stood outside Partizan brewery in London a few weeks ago, drinking. A man doing the same, told me how he’d heard the taste of Ruination described as. " fireworks going off in your mouth". After tasting it himself, he was inclined to agree. So I made a point of tasting it. And they’re both right. Very good beer.

Bottle at The Ale House, Chelmsford. Pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Very hoppy with something of a spiced aroma. Smooth fruity hoppy bitter finish. Good finisher.

One-third pint, 7.2 % ABV, tap at North Bar. Crystal clear amber coloured body. Low, but lasting, white layer. Dried fruity aroma with a touch of pumpkin. Taste is apricot, resin and pumpkin carefully added by malty sweetness. Rounded bittersweet finish of citrus peels that lingers for quite a while. Nice (Leeds 01.07.2013).

I think they probably need to update their copy. But then, there’s only a small percentage of beer geeks who would try this and go, "Yeah, it’s bitter, but it’s no 1000IBU". A lot of other, box-standard beer drinkers would maybe still, in 2013CE, find this an assault on the senses. But these drinkers are becoming fewer in number. Due, in no small part, to Stone. Is it ultimately self-defeating to call this Ruination, when one can easily say - "I’ve had bitter"?

Bottle. Orange golden color with medium off-white head. Malt, grapefruit, pines, mango, pineapples in aroma. Taste starts sweet malty followed by huge portion of piney and citrusy hops. Hoppy bitter finish. Delicious.
