Belgian Barley Wine. This is a beer for settling in. Hunkering down. Sitting by a fire. Reading a book. Picking on some tunes. Conversing with good company around said fire. Sipping. Savoring. Candied apples, a blanket of stone fruit, fig, and dark honey carry from the nose. Brandy and sherry make their way forward in the mouth, and the warmth that follows is intoxicating. Gather some good folks and share.

Dark amber color, clean. The aroma is lightly cheesy, Parmigiano Reggiano. Full bodied, but the alcohol is too present; malt and caramel flavor, but it has a vegetable presence, tomatoes and cabbage, light cheese; strong bitterness, but the hop qualities are a bit missing.
Powerful Ale, not bad, but there seem to be some trouble with the high gravity fermentation.

On tap at Stateside, pours a clear amber with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet, with apples, caramel and brown sugar. Flavour is not as nice unfortunately, with cloyingly sweet brown sugar and caramel. No balance to this. This is basically everything I don't like in a barley wine - just way too sweet and out of balance, with no hops at all. Not good.
