This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory—maybe something with a multimillion-dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made at an independent brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless seltzer / fizzy yellow beer / whatever-the-hell will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multimillion-dollar ad campaigns make all that junk taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.
We believe that pandering to the lowest common denominator represents the height of tyranny—a virtual form of keeping the consumer barefoot, stupid & led by the nose social media. Brought forth upon an unsuspecting public in 1997, Arrogant Bastard Ale openly challenged the tyrannical overlords who were brazenly attempting to keep the people chained in the shackles of poor taste. Malt and tin on the nose, a little appealing but not too exciting. Has a great dark brown-velvet body with nice beige head. Flavour a good strong ale taste with hints of licorice and molasses. The alcohol is quite prominent and the finish is oily. It’s a good strong ale, simple and drinkable.

Bottle from bursprak. Many thanks! Dark amber/red colour, beige foam. Medium carbonation. Sweet aroma of caramel, dried fruit and pine. Hoppy finish. Sweet and light bitter. Ok beer.

Tap @Brewdog Shepherds Bush. Clear, dark red brown. Frothy offwhite head. Malty, earthy, toffee aroma. Flavour has malt, caramel. Bitter and slightly boozy finish.

Old rating. Bomber from Old Town. Pours a nice clear amber with a medium-sized beige head. Citrus, pine, caramel, toffee, molasses aromas present on the nose. Medium body with bitter overtones and a hint of sweetness of the palate. Nice carbonation. Nice big dry bitter finish. A classic from Stone.

Deep ruby colored, small beige head. Aroma is of caramel, toffee and some but not too strong citrusy hops. Taste medium sweet caramel, toffee, a bit toasty malt, some dark fruits, moderately citrus hoppy. Dry, quite bitter finish. Well hidden alcohol. Medium to full bodied, syrupy.

Bottle from Market Basket, Epping NH. Aroma is mostly hoppy with slight basement smell Appearance is beautiful reddish amber with large, persistent, off white, foamy head with excellent lacing. Taste is more bitter than sweet, owing to the hops, and is a hair more hoppy than I tend to like but it’s not over the edge. Palate is medium bodied with light carbonation noted at the tip of the tongue. Pleasant long finish.

(On tap @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Mar 5 2015) Pours clear mahogany with a big dense off white head that lingers with a carpet of lace. Aroma surprisingly sweet and malty with muscovado sugar, raisin, stewed plum, maybe a bit of date. Kind of a soapy hop character, odd. On the palate it is toasted malts with brown sugar, citrus peel, pine resin, almost woody. Dry and mineral in the finish, with moderate bitterness. Lightish body with creamy carb. I don’t know, something about this didn’t blow me away like it should have. The hop character did not totally work for me, and it was both malty and yet thinner than expected. Not bad, but not the world beater its reputation, perhaps somewhat historical, lead me to expect.

Bottle from QClub at home. Copper pour with thick slightly tan head. Slightly lighter than root beer. Aroma is ginger biscuit malty with some pine resin hops. Taste is very malty which hides the very piney/resiny bitterness (very SD/west coast style hoppiness). Very bitter finish with a bit of sweet malts. Lasts. Really good.
