This intense Imperial Stout is defined by its high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, it creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a complex beer. Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written.

Oil-black tarlike pour and the mouth feel of a coffee flavored shale. Almost like drinking crude oil, but with a caramel coffee flavor. Itβs a good stout, but packs quite a punch. Rated 6/30/09

Pours black with thin brown head that dissipates quickly. Big coffee and chocolate aromas. Bittersweet chocolate flavor with some coffee. Very sweet. Full body with almost no carbonation.

Bottled 375ml. -from bierkompass.de; Birthday gift from my girlfriend.
Pitch black coloured, small brown head, chocolate coffee nose. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some hops with lots of licorice. Heavy sweetness but also deadly drinkable. Touch of vanilla in rather sweet alcoholic finish. All in all excellent imperial stout but too sweet for my taste.

Bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Opaque deep brown/black body with reddish highlights at the edges, thin, clumping buff head. Potent, complex nose of raisins, plum, molasses and soy, vinous, with chocolate and subdued roast and hints of sherry-like oxidation. Very sweet body with abundant plum and raisins, soy, and sherry, which quickly dissipates to a thin, almost metallic finish. I was surprised by how quickly the malt heft vaporized, which reminded me of the way cheap bubble gum offers a quick hit of tasty sugars before becoming flavorless and unpleasant to chew. This beer needed more hops, more roast, or something else to give the body more "oomph" and depth. Disappointing.

Bottle. The beer looked wonderful in the glass, black as sin with a very small but creamy foam. The aroma was very inviting. Roasted tones, a lot of coffee, chocolate, sweet malt. Oh, what a wonderful aroma! The taste was also exceptionally pleasant. Coffee but not as much as in the aroma, chocolate. A lot of raisin and dark berries, vanilla and roasted malt. The body was not screaming heavy but medium plus. Not very carbonated. Very nice beer to drink, there was a lot of other flavor nuances that are difficult to really describe. Blackhole felt surprisingly soft in the mouth. Yes, a real treat that reminded of port wine.

Bottle. Still looking thick black beer with little to no head. The aroma is sugary sweet malty, and the flavour is very rich but also very, very bitter with a port wine like body. Overall a complex beer maybe a little too strong at times.

This beer pours an oily black color with a medium light brown head that dissipates steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of burnt malt, chocolate and potent coffee liqueur. Rich body with flavors of espresso, dark chocolate and malt. Underlying alcohol throughout. The finish is roasty with a lingering anise and coffee aftertaste. I enjoyed this one.

My word this was a powerful brew! Bottle from beermerchants.com. Pours a deep black with a head that doesnβt last very long. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. Hell of a lot going on in the flavour with raisins, sultanas, dark chocolate, coffee, more coffee and lots more I canβt put my finger on! The mouthfeel attacks you with alcohol and a certain sweetness. Finishes big and bold and full of warming alcohol. Definately not a session beer!
