This intense Imperial Stout is defined by its high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, it creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a complex beer. Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written.

(375ml 2014 bottle from Mikkeller and Friends Bottle Shop, Copenhagen) Pours black with a decent sized dark tan head lingering a bit with lots of lace. Aroma of dark malts that are rich and sweet but with a soy overtone, ground coffee, lightly smoky roast, leather, dates, vanilla, honey, spicy herbal hop notes. The palate is sweet and malty with a liqueur quality, honey, caramel, coffee and chocolate, vanilla notes, an acidic fruity bite like cherry or some fortified wines. Middle reveals a bit of oxidation, herbal and spicy hops, a bit of leather and smoke. Finish retains sweet and lightly acidic hints but is nearly dry and bitter, with some hop bitterness, smoky roast and alcohol heat doing their part. Relatively light in body for a 13% stout, with soft carb and light to moderate booze. Interesting one in that it’s got components well past average for the style when it comes to sweetness, tartness and bitterness. In the end it doesn’t feel that big, but it is reasonably complex.

Taster at Beer for Geeks. Dark black with ruby highlights and a tan head with good lacing. The nose is coffee crisps & raisins with lots of boozy heat. A roasty dark chocolate flavor with a bit of bitter oaky smoke.

Tap (Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen). Black hole 2015. W porównaniu do wczesniej pitego piwa z butelki, tu czuc wieksza gladkosc, mniej nut sour a alkohol jest dobrze zamaskowany. Lezakowanie sluzy temu piwu. Butelka 375ml (30.10.2018). Barwa czarna, piana brazowa, gesta, obfita, trwala. Aromat alkoholowy, lekko palony, minimalnie owocowy, szampanski. W smaku alkohol, kwaskowe, slodkie, alkohol przyjemnie rozgrzewa przelyk i od srodka. Duzo nut wspolnych z sour ale. Mocne, mocno alkoholowe, tresciwe, przyjemne, calkiem pijalne. Bardzo dobre. Oleiste, wisnia w czekoladzie, sheery.

2013 Tap at Salon piva. Clear dark brown colour. Actually not that impressing. Too fruity, estery, lack of roasted flavours, I do not get them at all. Thus it is poor at being a RIS, but good otherwise. Fruity-estery.

Bottle at home. Over three years old. Has a black color with a light brown, creamy head. Well-roasted aroma with coffee, dark chocolate, dark berries, beech and some brown sugar. Really complex. The taste is also a fantastic mix between sweet malt and roastedness. Coffee, chocolate cake, mocha, dark berries and licourice all over. Incredibly compact. Has a soft and rich mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A very complex IS and a true dessert beer.

Mørk brun/svart i fargen. Lukter malt, kaffe og lakris. Preges av kaffe i smaken også. Smaken sitter i lenge. Dette er godt:-)
