This intense Imperial Stout is defined by its high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, it creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a complex beer. Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written.

Tap at Uiltje bar. Coffee, lots of roasted nuts, lots of red berries, some ash. Medium sweet with light tartness and coffee bitter finish. Nice hops throughout but the specific hop aromas get a bit lost. Medium to full bodied with slight thin feel. Nice.

Bottle, vintage 2011, enjoyed 3 years after bottling. Pours pitch black, with an enormous creamy mocha head. Aroma is big, complex and amazing, with burned malts, coffee and muscovado, as well as cocoa, leather, wood, tannins and Quite sweet, but with astringent burned notes. Creamy, velvety body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet with roasted malts, vanilla and tobacco, as well as muscovado, honey and cocoa. Sweet coffee astringency in the finish.

Tap at Mikkeller, Victoriagade. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is big malt, liqourice boozy alcohol. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich roasty coffee dark chocolate dusty mineral liqourice bitter palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation. I’ve had better impy stouts but this is one of the best. The alcohol is well hidden. It gives a nice warm feeling but does not burn.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - dry earthy, resiny. Then liquorice and charcoal coming through. Rye spice perhaps. Taste - nuts and coffee. Chocolate but dry. Salt caramel and liquorice. Spice again. Palate - medium to full bodied with a big crunchy texture and a long dry balanced finish. Overall - seriously complex.
