This intense Imperial Stout is defined by its high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, it creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a complex beer. Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written.

Black with thick and creamy light tan head. Aroma has strong coffee and hops, hints of licorice and black currant. Flavour has more coffee and berries, piercing bitterness just barely controlled by a syrupy sweetness. Big, sticky mouthfeel, lingering bitterness and light alcohol burn. Very good.

Süßer Malzantrunk mit geringer Röstigkeit. Etwas zu zuckrig, frisch rund malzig. Wenig alkoholisch, daher recht süffig. Gut! 8/10/10/10/12/10

Keg at Munich Tap House, 16th September 14. This is heavy on the nose, booze soaked fruit, a little liquorice, tar, coffee. Taste is interesting and complex, there’s a lot going on. The palate is surprisingly light, and it works. Loved it

Very heavy stout with oat flakes and an anarchistic label representing not much more than... well, a black hole. Thin, milky, dark beige foam, unstable due to the alcohol. Black colour with only a presumption of a wine-red glow under very bright light. Extremely intense aroma of black coffee, bitter chocolate, kahlua, sweet tobacco, Worcestershire sauce, old madera, candied dates, white pepper, raisins, soy sauce. Sharp and demanding, powerful taste of an infinitely profound chocolatey and roasted malt bitterness, soft on the edges though, even a bit sweetish, dark fruits, smoky touch, very thick and viscous mouthfeel, warm alcoholic finish, not astringent, very long and complex and totally satisfying in every sense of the word. Man, what a stout.

Black. Small beige head and lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, pine and juniper, with a hint of green pears and vegetables. Similar taste, balanced with bitternerss. Very strong, black coffe, some sourness and decent bitterness in aftertaste, for some reason also with a hint of green pears and chili. Low drinkability.

Bottle from Magasin du Nord, Copenhagen, DK. Pours dark brown-black with medium brown head. Aroma is heavy with hops, citrus and pine; and malts, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel; alcohol. Taste is well balanced between sweet and bitter at the same time. Very long dry bitter finish.

375ml Bottle at Erzbierschof in Liebefeld, Switzerland.Pours not as black as the name suggests, but it still looks nice, with a brown head. Much chocolate and dark, roasted malt in the aroma as well as in taste. Reminds me very strongly of hot chocolate. A delicious, full-bodied imperial stout which is well worth its money. 8-5-9-4-18 375ml bottle, BB 04/2011, generously shared by jonas in February 2017. Has a very nice hot dark chocolate flavour, liquorice, touch of chili. Hardly any carbonation, quite bitter finish. Very nice, though my 4.4 in my early rating days is probably too much. More like 8-4-8-3-16.

Draught at Harry’s Hofbrau. Aroma of dark fruit and sweet tobacco. Black with red highlights and ringed head. Taste is very sweet a d moderate fruitiness. Alcohol warmth is moderate. A little burn at the end. Semi-dry and moderate bitterness.
