This intense Imperial Stout is defined by its high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, it creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a complex beer. Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written.

375 ml bottle. Pours black with moderate foamy tan head. Aromas of vanilla, creamy licorice ice cream, dark chocolate, creamy coffee, and some dark fruit.Wow. Flavors of are mellower but still very rich and smooth. ABV is well hidden. Close to utopia.

Thick black beer, oily and slightly dringt mouthfeel. Rich taste of roasted coffee and cacao. Some bitter hops in the background and a surprisingly fruity aftertaste. Alcohol is warming, but not dominant. Very good.

Tap at tap house Munich. Licorice, salmiac and dark choc nose. Spicy, herbal entry. Licorice and extreme flowery hop aromatics. Full dry sticky body. Flowery licorice finish. Very unbalanced really. Licorice aftertaste.

375 ml bottle, no date code, ahhhh and yes after sampling it is old. Aroma is deep chocolate malts, burnt coffee and sugar.

The flavor of the coffee bean has turned for the worse. Bitter and astringent. It’s not a total bum out but close. Why can’t breweries put more bottle dates on theses bottles??? Old dark chocolate hurt by the bitter coffee. Cocoa nib and molasses.

Overall, I’m sure this was really nice about 8 months ago. Who else gets angry after paying a premium for a stout and it’s old coffee bitterness? Well I do...

Bottle at home, from Cotts, 01/02/14. Pitch black with a well appointed dirty tan head that soon dissipates to a thin covering. Nose is big roast, earthy cocoa, light booze, hop backnotes, metallic edge, earthy, dark fruit resonance. Taste comprises, sherry notes, coffee cake, tobacco, bitter roast, booze, dark chocolate, hoppy backnotes, molasses, earthy. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying boozey close. Decent impy, booze evident but not too head, rich flavours.
